ARIZONA&#8217;s Margo Geer held off Olympian Lia Neal of Stanford in one of the closest finishes in NCAA history with a win in the women&#8217;s 100-yard free at the NCAA Division I Women&#8217;s Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Geer, who jumped to third all time in the history of the event with a 47.00 this morning, did what she needed to with a 47.10 to 47.17 win against Neal in the finale.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s Missy Franklin, who many assumed would walk out of the meet with the first 100-200-500 free sweep ever, ended her freshman year with a third-place 47.26. She still managed to make the top three in all three events, including an American record in the 200 free for the title.<\/p>\n<p>Florida&#8217;s Natalie Hinds (47.40), Georgia&#8217;s Shannon Vreeland (47.60), USC&#8217;s Kasey Carlson (47.86), Stanford&#8217;s Maddy Schaefer (47.98) and Tennessee&#8217;s Lindsay Gendron (48.06) rounded out the championship heat.<\/p>\n<p>The .07 difference for victory for Geer is just off the record .06 set by Lacey Nymeyer of Arizona with a 47.50 to 47.56 win against Julia Wilkinson of Texas A&amp;M in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia&#8217;s Olivia Smoliga blasted the B final with a 47.89 for the win.
