THERE was little doubt who was going to win the women&#8217;s 1650-yard freestyle as Georgia&#8217;s Brittany MacLean took off early and left the rest of the field in the dust at the NCAA Division I Women&#8217;s Championships. The only question was whether she&#8217;d take down a record.<\/p>\n<p>Boy, did she ever do it. MacLean smashed the NCAA record with a sterling time of 15:27.84, beating Stephanie Peacock&#8217;s record of 15:37.06 by nearly 10 seconds. MacLean&#8217;s swim vaulted her to third all time in the event&#8217;s history behind only Katie Ledecky (15:15.17) and Katie Hoff (15:24.35).<\/p>\n<p>MacLean doubled up after winning the 500-yard freestyle on night one, and gave Georgia its sixth victory in the event all time, matching Florida.
