On the final night of the meet, Texas swimmers continued to post strong performances to set themselves up for next month&#8217;s NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n<p>The first final of the evening saw <strong>Olivia Bray<\/strong> win her second event of the meet while posting the third-quickest time in the country in the women&#8217;s 200 backstroke while <strong>Carson Foster<\/strong> won his third title in the men&#8217;s 200 back while improving to No. 4 in the nation.\u00a0<strong>Kelly Pash<\/strong> also won her third individual event of the meet as she topped the women&#8217;s 100 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Later on in the session, <strong>Erica Sullivan<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>David Johnston<\/strong> each posted third-ranked times in the country in their respective 1650 freestyle races while <strong>Lydia Jacoby<\/strong> swam the third-fastest time nationally while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/lydia-jacoby-crushes-17-18-national-age-group-record-in-200-breast-at-big-12-champs-moves-into-all-time-top-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crushing the 17-18 National Age Group record in the 200 breaststroke<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Team Scores<\/strong><\/h3>\n<pre>Women - Team Rankings - Through Event 43             \r\n \r\n  1. Teammates\u00a0<strong>Jordan Skilken<\/strong> (322.36) and\u00a0<strong>Sarah Carruthers<\/strong> (308.25) rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women&#8217;s 200 Backstroke<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Only two swimmers have cracked 1:50 in the 200 back so far this season, but <strong>Olivia Bray<\/strong> came within a tenth of joining those ranks in a dominant victory in the opening race of the last session. Bray, who was up on the field by more than 3.5 seconds at the halfway point before winning the conference title by 7.7 seconds, touched in 1:50.09, breaking the Big 12 meet record she set last year and falling just short of the conference record of 1:49.91 set by <strong>Tasija Karosas<\/strong> in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>In an event loaded with talent on the national level, including 200-meter back World Championship medalists <strong>Phoebe Bacon<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Rhyan White<\/strong>, Bray now ranks second in the country, her time edging out Tennessee&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josephine Fuller<\/strong> (1:50.12) while sitting behind only Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Claire Curzan\u00a0<\/strong>(1:47.43) and Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Isabelle Stadden<\/strong> (1:48.75).<\/p>\n<p>In the race for second,\u00a0<strong>Dewi Blose<\/strong> finished well to take second in 1:57.79, just ahead of Iowa State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Liz Richardson <\/strong>(1:57.97). Pash finished in 47.68 to beat teammate\u00a0<strong>Ava Longi<\/strong> by eight tenths, and the Longhorns ended up occupying the top four spots in the race. That won&#8217;t be a problem in 2023 after Sullivan clocked the third-fastest time in the country to win her conference title Saturday evening. Sullivan built an early lead before accelerating around the 500-yard mark, moving from 29.2 splits to the 28-mid range for the bulk of the race. The splits crept closer to 28-high and even 29-low territory, but she had enough to close in 27.88 and record a sub-15:50 swim.<\/p>\n<p>Sullivan finished in 15:49.16, which ranks behind defending NCAA champion\u00a0<strong>Paige McKenna\u00a0<\/strong>of Wisconsin (15:46.90) and\u00a0<strong>Kensey McMahon<\/strong> of Alabama (15:47.02) in the national rankings. Sullivan just missed\u00a0<strong>Evie Pfeifer&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>2021 meet record of 15:48.65. Sullivan&#8217;s lifetime best in the event sits at 15:23.81, a 2019 swim which ranks her second all-time behind\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Sullivan won this race by 20 seconds while a pair of her Texas teammates rounded out the top three:\u00a0<strong>Abby Pfeifer<\/strong> (16:09.67) and\u00a0<strong>Olivia McMurray<\/strong> (16:19.62).<\/p>\n<pre><b>Event 35  Women 1650 The Longhorns slightly improved upon their previous season-best mark while remaining eighth in the national rankings.<\/p>\n<p>TCU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Serena Gould<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Emma Hultquist<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Lucia Simovicova<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Olivia Rhodes<\/strong> took second in 3:19.36,and third went to West Virginia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mia Cheatwood<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Abby Reardon<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Ada Szwabinska<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Jaqueline McCutchan<\/strong> in 3:20.24.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Men&#8217;s 400 Freestyle Relay<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Longhorn men concluded the meet with an easy win in the 400 free relay, with\u00a0<strong>Danny Krueger<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Peter Larson<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Luke Hobson<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Carson Foster<\/strong> finishing in 2:49.26. However, Texas finished just off its season-best time of 2:49.15, which ranks 10th in the country. That means Texas will not race in the top heat of the 400 free relay at the NCAA Championships, just like in three of the other four relays on the program, so it will depend on the Longhorns improving their times by significant margins in order to continue a streak of top-two finishes at the meet dating back to 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The top split on the Texas relay was Larson&#8217;s 42.15 while Krueger led off in 42.25.
