The 2023 Pac-12 Women\u2019s Championships continued with the Day 3 prelims on Thursday from Federal Way, Wash.<\/p>\n

The morning session consisted of the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.<\/p>\n

Pac-12 Women\u2019s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

UCLA sophomore Paige MacEachern<\/strong> started the day with the top seed in the 400 IM. She touched the wall in 4:08.22, dropping nearly a second from her seed time.<\/p>\n

Stanford freshmen claimed the next two spots as Lucy Bell<\/strong> grabbed the second seed in 4:10.38 and Charlotte Hook<\/strong> was third in 4:10.57, followed by sophomore teammate Sam Tadder<\/strong> (4:10.58).<\/p>\n

USC\u2019s Justina Kozan<\/strong> took the fifth seed in 4:11.07, more than a seconds slower than her seed time, suggesting perhaps she has more in the tank for finals. Her fellow freshman teammate Ashley<\/strong> McMillen<\/strong> was sixth in 4:11.21, followed by Cal sophomore Leah Polonsky (<\/strong>4:12.07) and UCLA freshman Rosie Murphy<\/strong> (4:12.89).<\/p>\n

Pac-12 Women\u2019s 100 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n
Stanford\u2019s Torri Huske<\/strong> and Claire Curzan<\/strong> predictably took the top two seeds in the 100 butterfly. The Cardinal loaded the final with four swimmers.<\/p>\n
Huske took the top seed in 50.91, more than a second slower than her seed time. Meanwhile She holds the Pac-12 record at 49.25, set last year at NCAAs. Curzan was at 51.01, eight hundredths of a second off of her seed time. Both could be in for much faster finals as the teammates continue to push each other.<\/p>\n
UCLA senior Gabby Dang<\/strong> took the third seed in 51.85, followed by Arizona junior Julia Heimstead<\/strong> (52.29), Cal sophomore Lizzy Cook<\/strong> (52.48), Stanford senior Emma Wheal<\/strong> (52.52) and Stanford freshman Gigi Johnson<\/strong> (52.82).<\/p>\n

Stanford made it back-to-back events with the top two seeds, and put five in the finals in the 200 free.<\/p>\n
Defending NCAA champion Taylor Ruck c<\/strong>laimed the top seed with a swim of 1:44.19, about a second slower than her seed time, but well enough to take the top spot by a half second.<\/p>\n
Stanford freshman Kayla Wilson<\/strong> took the second seed in 1:44.51, close to her seed time.<\/p>\n
Cal\u2019s Mia Motekaiktis<\/strong> took the third seed, followed by two more Cardinal, giving Stanford the 1-2-4-5-8 seeds. Freshman Natalie Mannion<\/strong> took the fourth spot (1:44.88), senior Morgan<\/strong> Tankersley<\/strong> took the fifth spot (1:44.95) and sophomore Lillie Nordmann<\/strong> took the eighth seed (1:45.37).<\/p>\n
Cal senior Ayla Spitz<\/strong> was sixth (1:45.00) and Arizona junior Julia Heimstead<\/strong> was seventh (145.16), in a back-to-back double.<\/p>\n

Pac-12 Women\u2019s 100 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n
The morning session remained predictable as USC took the top two seeds in the 100 breaststroke.<\/p>\n
Defending NCAA champion Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong> took the top spot in 57.78, nearly a second slower than her seed time, another star saving some for finals. Meanwhile, teammate Isabelle Odgers<\/strong> took the second spot in 59.75, also about a second off of her seed time, which could make for an extremely fast final. Dobler holds the conference record set at the NCAA championships last year at 56.94. She also holds the meet record in 57.21, also set last year.<\/p>\n
UCLA senior Claire Grover<\/strong> also was, as expected, the third seed. She went a 59.92, breaking a minute and shaving about a half second off of her seed time.<\/p>\n
Cal senior Jade Neser<\/strong> took the fourth spot (1:00.37), followed by Stanford senior Allie Raab<\/strong> (1:00.48), UCLA sophomore Eva Carlson<\/strong> (1:00.53), Arizona State sophomore Iza Adame<\/strong> (1:00.80) and Washington State freshman Emily Lundgren (<\/strong>1:00.92).<\/p>\n

Pac-12 Women\u2019s 100 Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n
In the second half of a double, Stanford freshman Claire Curzan<\/strong> claimed the top seed in the 100 backstroke. She touched the wall in 50.17, five hundredths of off her seed time.<\/p>\n
She will look to hold off Cal junior Isabelle Stadden<\/strong> in the finals. Stadden took the second seed in 51.24.<\/p>\n
Stanford once again loaded an event, with four in the finals. Senior Lucie Nordmann<\/strong> is the third seed (51.97), tied tie Cal\u2019s Annika McEnro<\/strong>e. Following USC\u2019s Aria Bernal<\/strong> (52.60) is Stanford\u2019s Gigi Johnson<\/strong> (52.77), also in a double, and senior Alex Crisera<\/strong> (52.90). USC\u2019s Hanna Henderson<\/strong> is eighth (52.95).<\/p>\n
