Will Modglin Just Misses High School Record In 100 Backstroke; Will Have Another Chance At Ryan Murphy Mark<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Indiana High School Boys Championships are scheduled for next weekend at the IU Natatorium, and one of the most-revered national high-school records will be on high alert. During Saturday\u2019s Section 12 Champs, Zionsville star Will Modglin<\/strong> captured first place in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, his effort in the backstroke not far off Ryan Murphy\u2019s<\/strong> scholastic standard.<\/p>\n

After prevailing in the 200 medley in 1:47.55, Modglin topped the field in the 100 backstroke with a time of 45.53<\/a>. Murphy holds the high school record at 45.34, a performance he produced in 2012 as a member of the Bolles School. Modglin was also close to the national public-school record of 45.49, set by Hershey High School\u2019s David Nolan in 2011. That was the same year in which Nolan went 1:41.39 in the 200 individual medley.\u00a0On the front of Zionsville’s medley relay, Modglin split 20.87.<\/p>\n

A University of Texas recruit, who will have an immediate impact for the Longhorns in individual events and relay duties, Modglin is the reigning Swimming World High School Male Swimmer of the Year<\/a>.
