The Alabama senior has turned her success in the college pool into an Olympic berth, separating herself from the crowded American backstroke field and becoming a star.<\/p>\n<p>She entered what could be her final SECs with two chances to enter rarefied territory, winning the same event four straight years.<\/p>\n<p>On her first opportunity, she got the job done. White went 50.92 in the 100 back Friday night, controlling the field wire to wire to nab her fourth straight title. She&#8217;s the first woman ever to win the 100 back at four consecutive SEC Championships.<\/p>\n<p>She has the chance to do the same in the 200 back on Saturday. Tennessee is second, barely holding off Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, Florida\u2019s lead is creeping up on 300 points over Auburn and Texas A&amp;M, in search of the Gators\u2019 11th straight title. Louisiana State University        240<\/pre>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 200 butterfly<\/h4>\n<p>Move over <strong>Maggie MacNeil,<\/strong> there\u2019s a new LSU butterfly champ in town.<\/p>\n<p>OK, maybe not. But <strong>Jenna Bridges<\/strong> added her name to the list of LSU champions by winning the 200 fly in 1:54.18. Her time is a school record that downed the mark set in 2016 by <strong>Kara Kopcso<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Bridges bested <strong>Callie Dickinson,<\/strong> the Georgia grad student who was the only holdover from the top three last year. Dickinson went 1:54.63. <strong>Sara Stolter<\/strong> finished third in 1:54.88.<\/p>\n<p>Bridges\u2019 win came in stellar fashion. She was fourth at the 150-yard wall (fifth if you count <strong>Izzy Gati,<\/strong> who was disqualified for a false start) before a finishing leg of 29.14 blew the field away. But the Missouri senior rectified that in the final, going out fast and hanging on to win in 1:41.07. He was the only swimmer out under 48 in 47.67, and the Frenchman had enough gas left in the tank to bring it home by three tenths over the prelims top seed, <strong>Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mason Wilby<\/strong> was third in the event. Fifth was Alabama\u2019s <strong>Mateo Miceli,<\/strong> who went 1:42.02 to down the Crimson Tide\u2019s longest-standing record, owned since 2003 by <strong>Stefan Ghergel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Wilby had been third last year, the only one of the top four in the race back. It\u2019s not her fastest \u2013 she was 50.02 at SECs in 2020 \u2013 but it got the job done by a quarter-second over <strong>Josephine Fuller.<\/strong> The 2021 SEC Swimmer of the Year was fourth at NCAAs in this event last year. In fact, seven of the finalists finished in the top 12 last year, the other being a freshman.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nathan Stoffle<\/strong> finished second; he had been fourth last year. <strong>Matthew Menke<\/strong> of Alabama went form third to fifth. It\u2019s the 2021 SEC Female Freshman of the year\u2019s 13th career medal at the conference championship, and she&#8217;s the first Tennessee woman ever to repeat as 100 breast champion. She set a meet record of 57.25, downing <strong>Breeja Nelson\u2019s<\/strong> mark from 2014, and is within .07 of her conference record.<\/p>\n<p>Second again was <strong>Zoie Hartman<\/strong> of Georgia, who went 58.65. (She&#8217;s now finished first or second in each of her 11 individual SEC swims.) <strong>Avery Wiseman<\/strong> of Alabama was third in 58.71. It\u2019s an A cut time. Antoniou did the job on the anchor leg with a 47.08. White led off in 51.05, easily the fastest in the meet but slightly slower than the time she used to win the individual event. Runner-up Tennessee had gotten within .01 at the 300-yard exchange after a slow pickup by Antoniou, by the Cypriot sprint star made up for it quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee (<strong>Josephine Fuller, Mona McSharry, Sara Stolter<\/strong> and <strong>Brooklyn Douthwright<\/strong>) were second in 3:28.78. And it keeps get better. How, it\u2019s a little hard to figure.<\/p>\n<p>But with two sophomores (really a junior in Chaney) and a freshman, Florida just nearly set an NCAA record, going 2:59.48 in the 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>The foursome of <strong>Adam Chaney, Dillon Hillis, Josh Liendo<\/strong> and <strong>Maguire McDuff<\/strong> broke an SEC record that had been the 3:01.00 that Florida set at NCAAs last year. Two of those swimmers are gone, and lo and behold, the ones that replaced them are better. It\u2019s within .26 seconds of Texas\u2019s NCAA record from 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee was second, as Liendo\u2019s 43.35 outsplit <strong>Jordan Crooks<\/strong> in fly. The Tennessee foursome of <strong>Harrison Lierz, Michael Houlie,<\/strong> Crooks and <strong>Gui Caribe<\/strong> went 3:02.51, a school record by more than a second. Auburn finished third, also with an A cut of 3:03.03.
