Burns’ senior Jacob Jensen<\/strong> broke the lone 1A\/2A state record of the meet in the boys’ 50 free with a speedy time of 20.33, eclipsing the old mark of 20.42 held by Bradford Prep’s Reid Miller\u00a0<\/strong>since 2021. West Davidson’s\u00a0Luke Nebrich\u00a0<\/strong>also was under the old record in 20.40 for second.<\/p>\n

Orange’s\u00a0Katie Belle Sikes\u00a0<\/strong>splashed and dashed her way to a new North Carolina state record in the girls’ 50 free with a quick time of 22.17. The old state record stood at 22.46 from Ardrey Kell’s\u00a0Teresa Ivan\u00a0<\/strong>in 2021. Sikes, who first broke the 3A record with a 22.83 during prelims before crushing it during finals, was well ahead of the runner-up’s 24.99.<\/p>\n

Sikes then followed that performance up with yet another record performance in the 100 free. Her gold-medal time of 49.45 once again broke Ivan’s state mark of 49.25 from four years ago, also lowering Charlotte Catholic’s\u00a0Lauren Rhodes’\u00a0<\/strong>3A mark of 50.02 from 10 years ago.<\/p>\n

Breaking the state mark in the boys’ 50 free was Durham School of the Arts’\u00a0Lucca Battaglini<\/strong> in 19.47, crushing the field by nearly two full seconds. His time of 19.76 during prelims initially broke the 3A and overall state record before he lowered it yet again during finals. The old record was from\u00a0Noah Henderson\u00a0<\/strong>of West Alamance in 2019 at 19.92.<\/p>\n

Battaglini was back at it to set a new 3A and state record in the boys’ 100 fly. His winning time of\u00a046.94 demolished the old 3A mark of 47.30 from Henderson in 2019 and the old state mark of 47.01 from 2019 by Regan’s Max Edwards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Carrboro’s\u00a0Will Thompson\u00a0<\/strong>set a new 3A record in the 100 back with a time of 48.22. His time bested Henderson’s old record of 48.58 from 2018.<\/p>\n

On the boards, Lake Norman Charter’s Hayden Schroeder <\/strong>etched his name into the 3A record books by setting a new mark on 1-meter diving with a score of 554.20.<\/p>\n

Myers Park’s girls 200 medley relay of\u00a0Kayman Neal<\/strong> (26.06), Avery Klamfoth<\/strong> (28.01), Kiley Wilhelm <\/strong>(24.06) and\u00a0Sofia Plaza\u00a0<\/strong>(23.94) combined in 1:42.07 to set a new state record during prelims. Their time of 1:42.10, just off their own state record, still won gold.<\/p>\n

Marvin Ridge broke the state record in the boys 200 medley relay in 1:32.20 as\u00a0Charles Heisig\u00a0<\/strong>(24.27),\u00a0Jordan Willis\u00a0<\/strong>(25.51),\u00a0Troy Keen\u00a0<\/strong>(21.67) and\u00a0Michael Rice\u00a0<\/strong>(20.75) joined forces. The old mark stood at 1:32.24 by Green Hope from 2020.<\/p>\n

Taking down the 4A record in the boys 50 free was Needham Broughton’s\u00a0Wells Walker<\/strong>. His time of 20.19 erased his own mark of 20.22 during prelims. Also under the old record was Ashley’s\u00a0Sean Setzer\u00a0<\/strong>in 20.20 for the silver medal. Walker also set a new 4A record in the 100 free at 44.57 during prelims; his time of 44.64 at finals earned him the state title.<\/p>\n

The state record in the girls 100 breast now belongs to Hough’s\u00a0Grace Rainey\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:00.12 from prelims. Parkwood’s\u00a0Kaylee Hamblin\u00a0<\/strong>owned the record before at 1:00.35 from 2021. Rainey won in 1:00.27 at finals.<\/p>\n

Not one, not two, but three boys were under the 4A record in the 100 breast. Middle Creek’s\u00a0Grayson Nye\u00a0<\/strong>got the title in 54.13, breaking Hough’s\u00a0Will Chan<\/strong>‘s mark of 54.47 from 2017. Also under that mark was Providence’s\u00a0Ben Delmar\u00a0<\/strong>(54.39) in second and Corinth-Holder’s\u00a0Mason Hetzell<\/strong> (54.36) in third.<\/p>\n

Needham Broughton ended the meet with a bang, and a new 4A and overall state record, in the boys’ 400 free relay.\u00a0Walker (44.94),\u00a0Gus Wiggins\u00a0<\/strong>(46.46),\u00a0Wilson Tuttle\u00a0<\/strong>(46.88) and\u00a0Clem Camacho\u00a0<\/strong>(45.55) combined in 3:03.63.
