{"id":522074,"date":"2023-02-04T16:40:37","date_gmt":"2023-02-04T23:40:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=522074"},"modified":"2023-02-04T16:40:37","modified_gmt":"2023-02-04T23:40:37","slug":"stanford-men-swim-past-usc-in-pac-12-showdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/stanford-men-swim-past-usc-in-pac-12-showdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Stanford Men Swim Past USC in Pac-12 Showdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Stanford men&#8217;s swimming and diving team defeated USC in a Pac-12 dual meet showdown on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The No. 12 Cardinal won the meet 169-108 over the No. 20 Trojans.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford began the meet with a strong win in the 200-yard medley relay. <strong>Leon MacAlister, Zhier Fan, Ethan Hu<\/strong> and<strong> Jonny Affeld<\/strong> touched the wall in 1:27.62, going 1-2 with the Stanford B team (1:28.56), opening the meet with a 16-2 lead.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More College News<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stanford&#8217;s <strong>Matt Fenlon<\/strong> won the 1000 freestyle in 9:19.42, going 1-2 with <strong>Henry Morrissey<\/strong> (9:26.59).<\/p>\n<p>Stanford&#8217;s <strong>Luke Maurer<\/strong> won the 200 free in 1:36.66, going 1-2 with <strong>Andrew Matejka<\/strong> (1:38.54).<\/p>\n<p>MacAlister won the 100 backstroke in 47.17. <strong>Preston Forst<\/strong> won the 500 free (4:28.77). <strong>Andrei<\/strong> <strong>Minakov<\/strong> won the 100 fly (47.02).<\/p>\n<p>Fan won the 100 breaststroke in 53.08, ahead of USC&#8217;s <strong>Chris O&#8217;Grady<\/strong> (54.00). He also won the 200 breast (1:56.93) again ahead of O&#8217;Grady (1:57.53).<\/p>\n<p>Stanford freshman<strong> Andres Dupont<\/strong> won the 100 free (43.94), going 1-2 with Maurer (43.95), just one hundredth of a second behind. MacAlister was third in 44.45.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford&#8217;s <strong>Hayden Kwan<\/strong> ton the 200 backstroke (1:46.31). <strong>Ron Polonsky<\/strong> won the 200 IM (1:47.59).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rafael Gu<\/strong>, Maurer, <strong>Avery Voss<\/strong> and Minakov won the 200 free relay (1:19.73).<\/p>\n<p>Stanford&#8217;s <strong>Jack Ryan<\/strong> won 1-meter diving with 353.70 points, holding off USC&#8217;s Laurent Paradis (348.08).<\/p>\n<p>USC senior <strong>George Korovin<\/strong> won 3-meter with 368.03 points ahead of Paradis (360.25).<\/p>\n<p>USC&#8217;s<strong> Jackson Odgers<\/strong> won the 200 butterfly in 1:47.55, going 1-2 with <strong>Harry Homans<\/strong> (1:48.00).<\/p>\n<p>USC&#8217;s<strong> Artem Selin<\/strong> won the 50 free (19.89).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gostanford.com\/documents\/2023\/2\/4\/usc_at_stanford_final_results_with_all_splits.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Stanford men&#8217;s swimming and diving team defeated USC in a Pac-12 dual meet showdown on Saturday afternoon.
