﻿{"id":521811,"date":"2023-01-28T13:15:15","date_gmt":"2023-01-28T20:15:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=521811"},"modified":"2023-01-28T13:15:15","modified_gmt":"2023-01-28T20:15:15","slug":"michigan-swims-to-sweep-of-wisconsin-pitt-in-double-dual","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michigan-swims-to-sweep-of-wisconsin-pitt-in-double-dual\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan Swims to Sweep of Wisconsin, Pitt in Double Dual"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan women&#8217;s swimming and diving team defeated No. 17 Wisconsin, 174-126, and Pittsburgh, 222-78, on Saturday (Jan. 28) in Canham Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p>To kick off the double-dual meet, the quartet of <strong>Noelle Kaufmann, Letitia Sim, Brady Kendall<\/strong> and <strong>Lindsay Flynn<\/strong> raced to a first-place finish in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:39.91.<\/p>\n<p>Sim took out the competition in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, out-touching the second-place finisher by two seconds in the 100 and winning the 200 by two-and-a-half seconds. Sim added her third first-place honor of the day in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.62, while <strong>Devon Kitchel<\/strong> finished third with a time of 2:03.65.<\/p>\n<p>Flynn cruised to a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.52, and in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.64.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katie Crom<\/strong> outpaced the competition in the 200-yard freestyle finishing first with a time of 1:48.42, while <strong>Riley Francis<\/strong> touched third with a time of 1:49.28. In the 100-yard backstroke, Kaufman swam her way to a third-place finish, while <strong>Claire Donan<\/strong> touched the wall third in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200-yard butterfly, Kitchel fought until the last stroke to touch third with a time of 2:02.12 to out-touch teammate Crom. Michigan finished first, third, fourth and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle, led by Flynn.<\/p>\n<p>Newman touched the wall third in the 100-yard freestyle, moving past teammate Liang with a time of 51.02, while Crom finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:52.75.<\/p>\n<p>In the 100\u2014yard butterfly, Kendall just missed the first-place finish, finishing second with a time of 54.79.<\/p>\n<p>In the final event of the day, the team of Flynn, Kendall, <strong>Christey Liang<\/strong> and <strong>Claire Newman<\/strong> touched the wall first in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:21.01.<\/p>\n<p>On the diving side, Michigan swept the one-meter springboard competition with <strong>Evie Johnson<\/strong> finishing first, <strong>Kiarra Milligan<\/strong> finishing second and <strong>Lucy Hogan<\/strong> finishing third. On the three-meter springboard, the Maize and Blue swept the field with Hogan finishing first, Milligan finishing second and Johnson finishing third.<\/p>\n<p>Wisconsin&#8217;s <strong>Paige McKenna<\/strong> won the 1000 free (9:54.60) and the 500 (4:51.29) to lead the Badgers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phoebe Bacon<\/strong> won the 200 back (1:57.97). <strong>Mackenzie McConagha<\/strong> won the 100 back (54.22).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mallory Jump<\/strong> won the 200 fly (2:00.77) and 100 fly (54.19).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mgoblue.com\/documents\/2023\/1\/28\/20230128-sd-wisconsin-pittsburgh.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More College News<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The University of Michigan men&#8217;s swimming and diving team defeated No. 24 Wisconsin 164-134 and Pitt 194-106 on Saturday (Jan. 21) at Canham Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p>In the first event of the meet, the 200-yard medley relay, the quartet of <strong>Wyatt Davis, Brendan Fitzpatrick, Gal Groumi<\/strong> and <strong>Bence Szabados<\/strong> touched the wall first with a time of 1:26.03.<\/p>\n<p>In the 1,000-yard freestyle, <strong>Jared Daigle<\/strong> went from third to first to second all within the last 100 yards to touch the wall second in 9:12.51, .30 seconds behind Wisconsin&#8217;s <strong>Yigit Alsan<\/strong> (9:12.21). Daigle picked up a second Runner-up finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:47.32 to cap off his individual events on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Davis finished first in the 100-yard backstroke in 47.43 seconds, better than the second-place swimmer by more than a second (48.42). He also picked up the win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 47.80. Szabados kicked it into gear to take the win by .30 seconds with a time of 19.98, while Cam Peel touched third with a time of 20.04.<\/p>\n<p>In the last event of the day, the team of Peel, <strong>Nikola Acin<\/strong>, Davis and Szabados finished first in the 400 free relay in 2:55.43.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eitan Ben-Shitrit<\/strong> swam his way to a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:36.87, while Groumi touched third in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:48.13. In the 100-yard freestyle, Peel and Acin finished second and third to grab some big points for the Wolverines.<\/p>\n<p>In the 500 free, <strong>Eduardo Moraes<\/strong> swam his way to a second-place finish with a time of 4:27.49.<\/p>\n<p>On the diving side, <strong>Cameron Gammage<\/strong> and <strong>Kameron Lieberman<\/strong> finished first and second on the 1-meter springboard standings with scores of 350.00 and 325.25, respectively. On the 3-meter springboard, Gammage finished first with a score of 389.35.<\/p>\n<p>For Wisconsin, Aslan won the 1000 free (9:12.21). <strong>Will Myhre<\/strong> won the 100 breast (53.76). <strong>Jake<\/strong> <strong>Newmark<\/strong> won the 200 free (1:35.69), 500 free (4:26.59) and 100 free (43.63). <strong>Dominik Mark<\/strong> <strong>Torok<\/strong> won the 200 fly (1:46.06).<\/p>\n<p>Pitt&#8217;s <strong>Jerry Chen<\/strong> won the 200 breast (1:58.92) and <strong>Marcin Goraj<\/strong> won the 200 backstorke (1:44.77).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan women&#8217;s swimming and diving team defeated No. 17 Wisconsin, 174-126, and Pittsburgh, 222-78, on Saturday (Jan. 28) in Canham Natatorium.
