{"id":521769,"date":"2023-01-27T19:59:44","date_gmt":"2023-01-28T02:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=521769"},"modified":"2023-01-27T19:59:44","modified_gmt":"2023-01-28T02:59:44","slug":"texas-am-sweeps-smu-in-final-regular-season-dual-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/texas-am-sweeps-smu-in-final-regular-season-dual-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas A&#038;M Sweeps SMU in Final Regular-Season Dual Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The No. 19 Texas A&amp;M women&#8217;s swimming &amp; diving team took down SMU in its final tune-up of the regular season, 176-113, Friday evening inside the Robson &amp; Lindley Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Aggies started the day with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay as <strong>Jordan Buechler, Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall<\/strong> and <strong>Chloe Stepanek<\/strong> went 1:40.86.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman <strong>Duru Tanriverdi<\/strong> led the pool in the 1,000 free as she clocked a 10:12.52. Sharing the spotlight in the distance events, Stepanek won the 500 free as she put up a 4:52.39.<\/p>\n<p>The Maroon &amp; White claimed the top-two times in the 100 back as Stepanek swam a 56.32 and <strong>Abigail Ahrens<\/strong> touched the wall four-hundredths of a second later at 56.36. The Aggies did it again in the 100 breast with <strong>Caroline Theil<\/strong> finishing first (1:03.86) and <strong>Joelle Reddin<\/strong> taking second (1:04.71).<\/p>\n<p>Continuing the success in breaststroke, A&amp;M posted the top-four times in the 200 which included <strong>Charlotte Longbottom<\/strong> (2:17.47), <strong>Desirae Mangaoang<\/strong> (2:17.92), Kennett (2:18.86) and <strong>Emme Nelson<\/strong> (2:19.15).<\/p>\n<p>Leading the way in the 50 free was Kennett with a time of 23.39 and Theall earned second, recording a 23.59. Buechler added a first-place finish in the 200 free, registering a time of 1:51.61, and <strong>Aviv Barzelay<\/strong> was the first to touch the wall in 200 back, putting up a time of 1:59.65.<\/p>\n<p>Additional top Aggie finishes came from Alice Marini claiming second in the 200 fly (2:03.38), Theall in the 100 fly (53.59), <strong>Manita Sathianchokwisan<\/strong> securing second in the 100 free (51.18) and<strong> Giulia Goerigk<\/strong> capping off the individual events with the fastest time in the 400 IM (4:16.69).<\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M finished the night with a the second-fastest time in the 200 free relay as Stepanek, <strong>JoAnn Adler<\/strong>, Barzelay and Buechler clocked a 1:33.93.<\/p>\n<p>The Aggies posted the top-three scores on the 1-meter, including Joslyn Oakley (290.10), <strong>Alyssa Clairmont<\/strong> (289.95) and <strong>Mayson Richards<\/strong> (281.93). They did it again on the 3-meter, led by Clairmont (310.23), while more points were added by Richards (296.10) and Oakley (295.20).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More College News<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/12thman.com\/documents\/2023\/1\/27\/smu_v_tamu.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The No. 10 Texas A&amp;M men&#8217;s swimming &amp; diving team defeated the SMU Mustangs in its final regular-season meet, 172-108, Friday evening inside the Robson &amp; Lindley Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n<p>To begin the meet, the 200 medley relay team of <strong>Ethan Gogulski, Andres Puente, Jace Brown<\/strong> and <strong>Connor Foote<\/strong> claimed second as they put up a time of 1:29.60.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baylor Nelson<\/strong> added multiple wins, including the 200 free (1:38.28), 50 free (20.58) and 200 IM (1:47.86).<\/p>\n<p>The Aggies took over in the backstroke events with Gogulski winning the 100 (49.27) and Foote touching the wall right after at 49.51.<\/p>\n<p>Puente added points for the Aggies, earning a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 (55.46) and 200 breast (1:59.58).<\/p>\n<p>The Aggies swam the four-fastest times in the 500 free as <strong>Batuhan Filiz<\/strong> clocked a time of 4:27.54 and was followed by <strong>Trey Dickey<\/strong> (4:32.02), <strong>Maximiliano Vega<\/strong> (4:36.99) and <strong>William Coakley<\/strong> (4:37.16).<\/p>\n<p>Additional swimmers that led the way in their events included <strong>Anze Fers Erzen<\/strong> in the 200 fly (1:48.73), <strong>Kaloyan Bratanov<\/strong> clocking in at 45.26 in the 100 free, <strong>Thomas Shompe<\/strong>r claiming the 200 back (1:48.32),<\/p>\n<p>With their final dual meet coming to a close, the Maroon &amp; White finished third in the 200 free relay with Bratanov, Foote, Kraig Bray and Nelson clocking in at 1:21.79.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Takuto Endo<\/strong> earned first on the 3-meter with a score of 360.45.
