As a result to these shortages, Philadelphia is getting creative with its recruitment program for its public pools. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phillymag.com\/news\/2023\/01\/24\/philadelphia-lifeguards-public-pools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philadelphia Magazine<\/a>, the city is accepting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/the-top-5-reasons-why-swimmers-should-consider-lifeguarding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lifeguarding<\/a> applications from individuals who cannot swim.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, you read that right.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure there are enough lifeguards this upcoming summer, the City of Philadelphia will consider hiring individuals who currently have no swimming experience. No, the city is not planning to seat lifeguards who can\u2019t swim and, therefore, do not have the ability to save someone in need of assistance. If an individual is interested in lifeguarding, the city will offer learn-to-swim classes at Lincoln High School, located in the Northeast section of the city.<\/p>\n<p>On the surface, it seems concerning to entrust a person with minimal swimming experience as a lifeguard, even if he\/she completes a learn-to-swim program and lifeguard training.
