{"id":521626,"date":"2023-01-24T14:36:54","date_gmt":"2023-01-24T21:36:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=521626"},"modified":"2023-01-24T14:36:54","modified_gmt":"2023-01-24T21:36:54","slug":"kristen-stege-jordan-crooks-head-tennessee-sweep-of-sec-weekly-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kristen-stege-jordan-crooks-head-tennessee-sweep-of-sec-weekly-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Kristen Stege, Jordan Crooks Head Tennessee Sweep of SEC Weekly Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kristen Stege, Jordan Crooks Head Tennessee Sweep of SEC Weekly Honors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tennessee\u2019s <strong>Kristen Stege<\/strong> and <strong>Jordan Crooks<\/strong> were named the SEC Swimmers of the Weeek <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secsports.com\/article\/35518645\/swimming-diving-athletes-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Tuesday by the conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Volunteers also garnered men\u2019s freshman of the week via <strong>Gui Garibe.<\/strong> Texas A&amp;M\u2019s <strong>Victor Povzner<\/strong> and South Carolina\u2019s <strong>Brooke Schultz<\/strong> were the men\u2019s and women\u2019s divers of the week, respectively. <strong>Lydia Hanlon<\/strong> of Kentucky is the women\u2019s freshman of the week.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/sec-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEC Swimming<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Stege won three individual events in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tennessee-knocks-off-georgia-behind-jordan-crooks-gui-caribe-abby-samansky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vols\u2019 wins over Georgia<\/a> and Carson-Newman. She set the fastest time in the nation in the 1,650 freestyle at 15:57.01. The senior also won the 500 free against Carson-Newman (4:45.66) and won the 1,000 free against Georgia in 9:46.49. It\u2019s the first SEC Weekly Honor for the native of Napierville, Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>Crooks and Caribe are both being recognized for the fifth time this season. Crooks won seven times in the Georgia and Carson-Newman meets. He won the 100 butterfly in 45.71 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 46.32 against Georgia, as well as legs on winning 200 medley and 400 free relays. The sophomore from the Cayman Islands was quicker in the 100 back against Carson-Newman (46.25) to go with a pair of relay triumphs.<\/p>\n<p>Caribe won the 50 free (19.30) and 100 free (42.80) against Georgia. The Brazilian was on the same two winning relays as Crooks in that meet. He swam fly in the 200 medley relay and led off the 200 free relay in 19.35 to top Carson-Newman.<\/p>\n<p>Povzner won both springboard events <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/texas-am-victorious-over-lsu-despite-strong-efforts-from-mac-neil-curry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a dual meet with LSU<\/a>. He scored 385.95 on 1-meter and 421.65 on 3-meter. The junior from Toronto earned his second SEC Weekly honor of the season.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s five for Schultz, a graduate student. She set the Gamecocks program record on 1-meter with a score of 370.58 to win the competition in a meet with Davidson. She placed second on 3-meter, tallying 395.85 points.<\/p>\n<p>Hanlon stood out in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kentucky-women-louisville-men-emerge-victorious-in-bluegrass-state-showdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">intrastate victory over Louisville<\/a>. She won the 200 back in 1:52.15, the 10th-fastest time in the nation.
