The No. 13 Hokie men won 172-121 and the No. 23 women won 155-140.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think we swam very well today. Overall, I think the team reacted well, we saw some promising times and the divers did very well too,&#8221; Virginia Tech coach <strong>Sergio Lopez Miro<\/strong> said. &#8220;We had a hard week of training and it was a great transition to taper down times for some people in preparation for the VT Invite coming up where we&#8217;re going to decide our ACC roster. It&#8217;s shaping up to be a great season for the men and the women and it&#8217;s really exciting for the team and all of the coaches.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Virginia Tech started out the meet strong with a first place win by <strong>Will Koeppen, AJ Pouch, Youssef Ramadan<\/strong> and <strong>Luis Dominguez<\/strong> in the 400 medley relay at 3:08.81, making it in the 10th spot on the Hokies top 10 board.<\/p>\n<p>Dominguez showed his speed when he broke a pool record in the 200 free with a time of 1:33.87 and later went on to break another pool record in the 500 free with a time of 4:18.17. Proving that Virginia Tech has multiple top freestyle swimmers, <strong>Mario Molla Yanes<\/strong> placed first in the 100 free with a time of 43.30.<\/p>\n<p>Ramadan broke another pool record at McCoy Navatorium in the 50 free with a time of 19.09. Dominating the 100 fly, Ramadan broke his second pool record of the day, placing first at 44.76. Continuing the first place wins in butterfly, Virginia Tech&#8217;s<strong> Landon Gentry<\/strong> placed first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:44.48.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing out the meet on a strong note, Virginia Tech&#8217;s Ramadan, Dominguez, Molla Yanes and Koeppen took first place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:18.83.<\/p>\n<p>On the boards, Virginia Tech&#8217;s <strong>Noah Zawadzki c<\/strong>laimed first in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 370.88 and the 3-meter event with a score of 376.05.<\/p>\n<p>For Penn State, <strong>Eduardo Cisternas<\/strong> won the 1000 free (8:56.63). <strong>Cooper Morley<\/strong> won the 100 backstroke (47.41). <strong>Mariano Lazzerini<\/strong> won the 100 breaststroke (54.10). <strong>Will Lulek<\/strong> won the 400 IM (3:52.34).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hokiesports.com\/documents\/2023\/1\/21\/psu_vs_vt_meet_results_01.21.2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More College Ne<\/a>ws<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s meet, lacing first in the 400 medley relay, Virginia Tech&#8217;s<strong> Emma Atkinson, Fanni Gyurinovics, Karisa Franz<\/strong> and <strong>Carmen Weiler Sastre<\/strong> finished with a time of 3:36.46. This relay time made in the 10th spot of the Hokies top 10 board.<\/p>\n<p>The Virginia Tech women later went on to claim first in the 200 free relay with<strong> Madelyn Moore, Sarah Shackelford<\/strong>, Weiler Sastre and<strong> Emily Claesson<\/strong> finishing at 1:29.29, making this relay the third top time in Hokie history. Moore&#8217;s 50 free lead-off of 22.30 made it into the fifth spot of the women&#8217;s top 10 times.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chase Travis<\/strong> finished the women&#8217;s 1000 free with a time of 9:49.86.
