While current collegians occupy the top five spots, the two holdovers from last year\u2019s NCAA final in the 50 free \u2013 and the two swimmers in marauding form through the fall invitational season \u2013 weren&#8217;t the ones leading the way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jack Alexy<\/strong> grabbed the top seed in finals, going 22.42, in a field where the top five were spread just .19 seconds apart. Behind him was last year\u2019s NCAA runner-up <strong>Bjorn Seeliger <\/strong>in third<strong>,<\/strong> with home-pool hope <strong>Jordan Crooks<\/strong> fifth.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2022-tyr-pro-swim-series-knoxville\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Coverage Page<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swmeets.com\/Realtime\/Pro%20Series\/2023\/Knoxville\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Full results of TYR Pro Swim Series Knoxville Day 3 Men\u2019s Prelims:<\/p>\n<h4>200 Butterfly<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Gabriel Jett<\/strong> led the way in the morning session with a time of 1:58.74. That was a half-second quicker than <strong>Nicolas Albiero,<\/strong> in a meeting of two swimmers who are plenty familiar with each other from the NCAA pool. Third was <strong>Chase Kalisz<\/strong> in 1:59.71.<\/p>\n<h4>50 Freestyle<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Jack Alexy<\/strong> led the parade of collegians across the line in 22.42. Second was NC State\u2019s <strong>David Curtiss<\/strong> in 22.45. <strong>Bjorn Seeliger<\/strong> made it two Cal swimmers in the top three in 22.57, followed by the Tennessee pair of <strong>Gui Caribe<\/strong> (22.60) and <strong>Jordan Crooks<\/strong> (22.63).<\/p>\n<p>That relegated some of the American veterans. <strong>Justin Ress<\/strong> was sixth in 22.68, with<strong> Ryan Held<\/strong> in 22.74. <strong>Kevin Gillooly<\/strong> rounded out the final.<\/p>\n<h4>100 Backstroke<\/h4>\n<p>With <strong>Justin Ress<\/strong>, who had won the 50 back the night before, scratching the 100 in favor of the 50 free, <strong>Hunter Armstrong<\/strong> took the initiative in prelims. He went 54.64 to set the pace. That\u2019s a half-second ahead of <strong>Destin Lasco,<\/strong> with <strong>Hunter Tapp<\/strong> (55.28) in third.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> eased into the final in fifth in 55.32. Teen phenom <strong>Daniel Diehl<\/strong> was .02 ahead of him. Rounding out the final eight is <strong>Nicolas Albiero,<\/strong> on the back of a daunting double.<\/p>\n<h4>200 Breaststroke<\/h4>\n<p>Absent many of the top American names, 34-year-old <strong>Brandon Fischer<\/strong> takes top honors in 2:16.93. He was nearly a second up on <strong>Thomas Cope<\/strong> for that top seed. <strong>Lyubomir Epitropov,<\/strong> the winner of the 100 breast, grabbed the third seed.<\/p>\n<p>Among the wild cards in the final is <strong>Trenton Julian,<\/strong> who earned the seventh seed in the final.<\/p>\n<h4>50 Butterfly<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Gui Caribe<\/strong> added to the home-pool successes for the Vols, with the top seed in the 50 fly in 24.10. Canadian Olympian <strong>Finlay Knox<\/strong> was second in 24.22, ahead of <strong>Ryan Held<\/strong> (24.29).<\/p>\n<p>Among those missing out on the A final were <strong>Coleman Stewart<\/strong> (12th in 24.61) and <strong>Jordan Crooks<\/strong> (14th in 24.67).<\/p>\n<h4>400 Freestyle<\/h4>\n<p>Olympic champion <strong>Ahmed Hafnaoui<\/strong> has showed he\u2019s in fine form, setting the prelims pace in 3:53.55. That\u2019s nearly a second ahead of <strong>Kieran Smith,<\/strong> who takes the second seed.
