Additionally, a teenager beat a field in the 200 freestyle that included some of the top swimmers in the United States while positioning himself for a run at senior elite status in the near future.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-grimes-leads-sandpipers-sweep-of-800-freestyle-at-tyr-pro-series-in-knoxville-ahmed-hafnaoui-tops-bobby-finke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day One Recap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-dominates-200-free-finishes-just-behind-katie-grimes-in-400-im-at-tyr-pro-swim-series-knoxville\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day Two Women&#8217;s Recap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swmeets.com\/Realtime\/Pro%20Series\/2023\/Knoxville\/\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Men&#8217;s 200 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>With 50 meters remaining in the final,\u00a0<strong>Kieran Smith<\/strong> held a comfortable lead over the trailing pack of three swimmers including Cal teammates\u00a0<strong>Gabriel Jett<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Robin Hanson\u00a0<\/strong>plus Jersey Wahoos teenager\u00a0<strong>Henry McFadden<\/strong>. But on the last length, Smith fell off the pace while McFadden surged home with a 26.66 closing split. McFadden got to the wall in 1:47.23, one tenth ahead of Smith&#8217;s 1:47.33.<\/p>\n<p>McFadden, a 17-year-old Jersey Wahoos swimmer heading to Stanford University next fall, knocked a full second off his previous lifetime best of 1:48.27. This 1:47.23 would have already been quick enough for McFadden to qualify for the final at last year&#8217;s U.S. International Team Trials, so he could be in contention for a spot on the U.S. men&#8217;s 800 free relay in short order.<\/p>\n<p>Jett took third in 1:47.41, and he could also be in position for a big future in the 200 free as his time was three hundredths under his previous best time. The Bulgaria-native touched in 1:01.35, a half-second ahead of the field.\u00a0<strong>Tommy Cope<\/strong> (1:01.82) and\u00a0<strong>Brandon Fischer<\/strong> (1:01.92) rounded out the top three while Canadian\u00a0<strong>James Dergousof<\/strong> was just behind (1:01.95). American teammate and world-record holder <strong>Hunter Armstrong<\/strong> ended up with the silver medal after the ordeal was finished, and the two raced for the first time since Thursday evening. Miller finished 0.17 ahead of a tie between former Cal teammates\u00a0<strong>Trenton Julian<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong>, who both swam a mark of 52.41. Murphy, a four-time Olympic gold medalist in backstroke events, had the early lead before fading down the stretch.
