CHRISTIANBURG, Virginia, March 21. FIFTEEN-year old Delaney Walz of the Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Club and seventeen-year old Zachary Buerger of Allegheny North won two events each and GPAC’s Brendan McHugh broke the meet record in the 100 breast during the second night of finals of the Speedo Christianburg Sectionals.<\/p>\n
Walz kicked off the night with a personal best to win the 200 free in 1:49.43. Egg Harbor Township’s Amanda Nunan touched just behind her with her own personal best of 1:49.56. Central Bucks Swim Team’s Emily Kosten placed third with a personal best time of 1:50.06.<\/p>\n
Walz’s second win came in the 100 fly with a time of 55.34. Central Bucks Swim Team’s Alexandra Szekely took second with a 55.68. Annie Hayburn of Annapolis Swim Club clocked in at 56.42 for third.<\/p>\n
The first of Buerger’s wins came in the 200 free as well, with the Princeton commit putting up a personal best 1:37.62 for first. Central Bucks Swim Team’s Gregory Brocato posted a personal best of 1:39.85 for second. Mount Lebanon Aqua Club’s Drew Damich touched third with a personal best time of 1:40.13.<\/p>\n
Buerger was victorious again in the 100 fly, clocking in at 48.66. Duke Aquatics’ Koya Osada, who will swim at Harvard in the fall, hit the wall in a personal best 49.25 for second. Gregory Brocato took third with a time of 50.12.<\/p>\n
McHugh, who swam at the University of Pennsylvania, broke the previous 100 breast meet record of 53.14 with a winning time of 52.59. Nittany Lion Aquatic Club’s Armand Apa took second with a time of 55.72. Central Bucks Swim Team’s Michael McBryan, who will swim at North Carolina next year, posted a 55.87 for third.<\/p>\n
Virginia Tech’s Alyssa Bodin won the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.40. Lauren Barber of the Jewish Community Center Sailfish clocked in at a personal best of 1:01.99 for second. Pine Richland Aquatics’ Katherine Fernander touched third with a 1:03.47.<\/p>\n
Kathryn Painter of Norwin Aqua Club put up a 4:19.95 to win the 400 IM. Geordie Enoch of the Eagle Swim Club, who will swim at Harvard next year, took second with a 4:22.69. Duke Aquatics’ Danielle Liu, who will swim at Yale, posted a 4:26.03 for third.<\/p>\n
Koya Osada clocked in at a personal best 3:50.64 to win the men’s 400 IM. Blue Wave Swim Team’s Stephen Clendenin, who swam at University of Mary Washington, touched in 3:57.79 for second. Golden Ram Aquatics’ Thomas McCormick, who will swim for hometown West Chester University next year, hit the wall in 3:59.24 for third and a personal best.<\/p>\n
Eagle Swim Team’s women (Alayna Nielson, Amanda Chabbott, Kristen Vargas, Geordie Enoch) posted a 7:35.38 to win the 800 freestyle relay. Golden Ram Aquatics (Julie Dobson, Laura Barthold, Madison McNichol, Abby Kosic) clocked in at 7:36.67 for second. Machine Aquatics (Laura Sullivan, Mackenzie Miller, Olivia Schmid, Sammie Grant) took third with a time of 7:38.01.<\/p>\n
On the men’s side, Duke Aquatics put up a 6:46.98 to win the 800 free relay. Nation’s Capital Swim Club (Samuel Pomajevich, Justin Touve, Timothy Wu, Graham Baird) placed second with a 6:50.20.
