Mac Neil won the Olympic gold medal in the 100 fly last year and is the defending short course world champion while Huske dominated the event at the long course World Championships in June. Both swimmers qualified for the semifinals, but the top seed was Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Louise Hansson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Australian women posted the top time in the 200 medley relay prelims while American\u00a0<strong>Leah Smith<\/strong> claimed lane four going into the 400 IM final and Lithuania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ruta Meilutyte\u00a0<\/strong>led the way in the 50 breaststroke.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2022\/16th-fina-world-swimming-championships-25m-live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2022-fina-world-short-course-championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet information page<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Women&#8217;s 200 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Australia has already captured two gold medals in women&#8217;s relays in Melbourne, and now, the women of the 200 medley relay will head into the final as the top-seeded team. The group of\u00a0<strong>Kaylee McKeown<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jenna Strauch<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Emma McKeon\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Madison Wilson<\/strong> swam a time of 1:44.78 to take the top seed, just ahead of Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hanna Rosvall<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Klara Thormalm<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sara Junevik<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Sofia Aastedt<\/strong> (1:44.83). Also very close to the top spot was France&#8217;s group of\u00a0<strong>Analia Pigree<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Charlotte Bonnet<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Melanie Henique<\/strong> and <strong>Beryl Gastadello<\/strong> (1:44.86).<\/p>\n<p>The Australians used many of their top swimmers in prelims, although\u00a0<strong>Meg Harris<\/strong> could replace Wilson on the anchor leg in the final. Sweden will be able to insert\u00a0<strong>Louise Hansson\u00a0<\/strong>on backstroke or butterfly and\u00a0<strong>Sophie Hansson<\/strong> on breaststroke in an attempt to defend last year&#8217;s gold medal, although star sprinter\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> is absent.<\/p>\n<p>Japan, the Netherlands, Canada, the United States and the Czech Republic also qualified for the final. Canada could make wholesale changes to its finals squad with\u00a0<strong>Maggie Mac Neil\u00a0<\/strong>ready to come in after already winning the 50 fly and 50 back in Melbourne while\u00a0<strong>Kylie Masse<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong> are also options. Franceschi touched just behind in 4:31.01 to qualify second for the final.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Waka Kobori<\/strong> took third overall in 4:31.19, followed by Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zsuzsanna Jakobos<\/strong> (4:31.36) and Flickinger (4:31.61). Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ilaria Cusinato<\/strong> was sixth (4:32.94) while defending short course world champion\u00a0<strong>Tessa Cieplucha<\/strong> finished seventh in prelims in 4:33.58. But in the first round of the event, it was a fast-finishing\u00a0<strong>Louise Hansson<\/strong> of Sweden who emerged as the top seed with a time of 55.74. Hansson took silver in this event last yea, just six hundredths behind Mac Neil.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alexander Perkins<\/strong> of Australia finished third in 56.46, while Mac Neil was fourth in 56.53. Meilutyte finished almost three tenths ahead of the field in prelims with a mark of 29.10, a much quicker time than last year&#8217;s gold-medal-winning time (29.34). China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tang Qianting<\/strong>, last year&#8217;s gold medalist in the 100 breast, took second in 29.38, and South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lara van Niekerk<\/strong> took third in 29.45.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Imogen Clark<\/strong> took fourth in 29.51, just ahead of the swimmers who won gold and bronze in the 100 breast, respectively: the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lilly King <\/strong>(29.53) and Germany&#8217;s <strong>Anna Elendt<\/strong> (29.59). Italy&#8217;s <strong>Benedetta Pilato<\/strong> took seventh in 29.32.
