Meanwhile, veteran IMer <strong>Daiya Seto<\/strong> will chase his first international medal in breaststroke Friday evening after earning lane four for the 200 breast final.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2022\/16th-fina-world-swimming-championships-25m-live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2022-fina-world-short-course-championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet information page<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Men&#8217;s 200 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Japanese veteran\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto<\/strong> has won 14 medals at the World Championships over six appearances at the event (including Thursday&#8217;s silver in the 200 butterfly), but none of those have ever come in the 200 breaststroke. But the 28-year-old posted the top times in prelims as he held off American\u00a0<strong>Nic Fink<\/strong> in the final heat of prelims. Fink is the defending champion in the event, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-mens-events-american-nic-fink-leads-all-the-way-to-claim-second-melbourne-gold-in-the-100m-breaststroke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he already won 100 breast gold in Melbourne<\/a>. Seto posted a time of 2:02.43 in prelims, just ahead of Fink&#8217;s 2:02.75.<\/p>\n<p>Another Japanese swimmer, former long course world-record holder\u00a0<strong>Ippei Watanabe<\/strong>, took third in 2:03.64, with China&#8217;s<strong> Qin Haiyang<\/strong> (2:03.81) and France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Antoine Viquerat\u00a0<\/strong>(2:03.93) finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Erik Persson<\/strong>, Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marco Koch<\/strong> and Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Caio Pumputis<\/strong> were also finalists. Crooks will once again be very much in contention in the 50 free after he crushed a strong field in prelims. He posted a time of 20.36 to move to fifth all-time in the event behind only\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Florent Manaudou<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Roland Schoeman<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong>. Crooks was only two tenths off Dressel&#8217;s world record of 20.16.<\/p>\n<p>Another swimmer representing a Caribbean nation, Trinidad and Tobago&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dylan Carter<\/strong>, qualified second in 20.70. Carter is fresh off a dominant season on the FINA World Cup circuit. The long course world champion,\u00a0Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ben Proud<\/strong>, took fourth in 20.88, just ahead of Manaudou (20.94) and Hong Kong&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ian Ho<\/strong> (20.99).<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lewis Burras<\/strong> and Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Szebasztian Szabo<\/strong> tied for sixth in 21.00, with the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>eighth (21.02). The team of <strong>Trenton Julian<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jake Magahey<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jake Foster<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Drew Kibler<\/strong> posted the top time in prelims at 6:53.63, with Kibler anchoring in 1:41.97. Julian and Kibler are likely to return in finals along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-three-mens-finals-kieran-smith-wins-400-free-in-american-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">400 free world champion\u00a0<strong>Kieran Smith<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-one-mens-finals-matthew-sates-sets-african-record-en-route-to-200im-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">200 IM silver medalist\u00a0<strong>Carson Foster<\/strong><\/a> (Jake&#8217;s younger brother) after that same group posted a three-second win in Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Temma Watanabe<\/strong>, <strong>Hidenari Mano<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Shuya Matsumoto<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Katsuhiro Matsumoto<\/strong> (anchor leg of 1:42.63) finished second in prelims in 6:54.26, and Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matteo Ciampi<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Manuel Frigo<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Paolo Conte Bonin<\/strong> placed third in 6:54.54. Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Clyde Lewis<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Flynn Southam<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Stuart Swinburn\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Brendon Smith<\/strong> were fourth in 6:54.83.
