CLAREMONT, Calif., March 25. THE No. 20 Arizona State women's water polo team jumped out to a quick lead against Harvard Sunday and never looked back as the Sun Devils won their third game in a row by handing the Crimson an 8-6 setback at the Claremont Colleges Tournament in Claremont, Calif. <\/p>\n
Daya Mau (Fr., Honolulu, Hawai'i) broke loose for three goals in the opening 1:49 of the contest to stake the Sun Devils (15-9) to the early lead.<\/p>\n
After Mau scored her hat trick, she added another two scores later in contest to accompany the six steals she recorded and her five goals tied the school record for goals in a game with four others. <\/p>\n
The Sun Devils won the opening tip and drove into the Harvard end with Mau firing on goal and scoring a 1-0 lead. On the ensuing Crimson possession, Mau stole the second pass and drove into the offensive end to score her second goal. After the ASU defense stopped Harvard
\nagain, Mau ended up with the ball in her hand and then her third goal in the opening two minutes of play.<\/p>\n
Also scoring for ASU were Katie Davis (Jr., Riverside, Calif.) with two and Tessa Wyborny (Fr., Walnut Creek, Calif.) with one. Bryn Kuech (So., Bonsall, Calif.) and Gili Kollan (So., Kiriat Bialik, Israel) added three and two assists, respectively, while Wyborny and
\nCatharine Taber (Jr., Clayton, Calif.) each added one assist.<\/p>\n
Lizzie Houck (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) also turned in a record-tying performance on the day as she anchored the defense with 16 saves in goal. After tying the second-best total of 15 in a game earlier in the year, Houck time and again turned away the Harvard attack to
\npreserve the Sun Devil lead and eventually the win.<\/p>\n
Leading 4-1 after the first quarter of play, the Sun Devils were held to no goals in the second period as the Crimson cut the lead to 4-3 with two goals of their own. <\/p>\n
Both teams scored one goal in the third with ASU netting three in the final stanza, compared to two for
\nHarvard.<\/p>\n
Arizona State plays host to No. 13 UC Irvine at 1 p.m. Wednesday and No. 11 UC Santa Barbara at 4 p.m. Thursday<\/p>\n
