{"id":518249,"date":"2022-12-15T03:18:44","date_gmt":"2022-12-15T10:18:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=518249"},"modified":"2022-12-15T09:01:49","modified_gmt":"2022-12-15T16:01:49","slug":"world-championships-mens-events-american-nic-fink-leads-all-the-way-to-claim-second-melbourne-gold-in-the-100m-breaststroke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-mens-events-american-nic-fink-leads-all-the-way-to-claim-second-melbourne-gold-in-the-100m-breaststroke\/","title":{"rendered":"World Championships, Day Three Finals: Nic Fink Leads All The Way To Claim Second Melbourne Gold In 100 Breaststroke"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>World Championships, Day Three Finals: Nic Fink Leads All The Way To Claim Second Melbourne Gold In 100 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>American <strong>Nic Fink<\/strong> came to Melbourne with unfinished business and he delivered in spades tonight \u2013 leading from start to finish to win the 100m breaststroke world title \u2013 the one gold he missed out in last year\u2019s World Titles in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old clocked 55.88 to hold off reigning World Long Course and European champion <strong>Nicolo Martinenghi<\/strong> (Italy) in 56.07 with two time Olympic and three time World LC champion <strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> (Great Britain) taking bronze in 56.25.<\/p>\n<p>The elusive Short Course gold again eluding the world\u2019s foremost sprint breaststroker of the modern era.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2022-world-short-course-championships-day-3-day-3\/international-elite\/2022\/December\/15?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day 3 Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2022\/16th-fina-world-swimming-championships-25m-live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was Fink\u2019s second gold of the meet so far, after joining <strong>Ryan Murphy, Kate Douglas <\/strong>and <strong>Torri Huske<\/strong> in the world record breaking US Mixed Medley Relay gold medal team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means a lot,&#8221; Fink said of his title. &#8220;I was able to get the other two last year and completing the set \u2013 as (the announcer) was saying \u2013 is kind of fun and it\u2019s giving me confidence to defend the next two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After coming back from ankle surgery, Peaty admitted he was disappointed, but said: \u201cI\u2019m not going to allow myself to be. It is what it is and I am what I am.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel pure anger which is very dangerous. I am loving it. I have come back from hell really. I had a lot of personal things that I had to take care of.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been putting in a lot of hard work but they just out-skilled me tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peaty said he was looking forward to a long course season after this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am looking forward to a challenge and this is the high that I need,\u201d said Peaty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you don&#8217;t give 110 percent to this sport it will take 110 percent out of you and you will lose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to make some very tough personal choices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need to make sure that the next 18 months has to start with the foundation of enjoyment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t do anything without the enjoyment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am looking forward to the Paris (Olympic) cycle; being back and swimming in front of these crowds. This is why I danced a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pointing out that he doesn\u2019t get bronze very often.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat will be a weird one for Wikipedia,\u201d said Peaty.<\/p>\n<p><img
