THE Stanford Cardinal finished a night one relay sweep in style at the NCAA Division I Women’s Championships with an American, NCAA and U.S. Open mark.

Stanford’s Maya DiRado (51.42), Katie Olsen (58.27), Felicia Lee (50.82) and Lia Neal (47.00) raced their way to the record with a 3:27.51. That swim beat the previous NCAA and U.S. Open record of 3:28.10 set by California two years ago, and downed the American mark of 3:28.31 from Arizona in 2009.

That’s Stanford’s record 10th victory in the event, having previously won the distance medley relay in 1987, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002, but had had a drought lasting more than a decade since their last win in the event.

Texas A&M’s Paige Miller (50.70), Breeja Larson (57.43), Caroline McElhany (52.19) and Lili Ibanez (47.81) took second overall in 3:28.13, and initially thought they might be on their way to the program’s first NCAA relay title, but couldn’t hold off the duo of Lee and Neal.

Georgia’s Olivia Smoliga (51.45), Melanie Margalis (58.56), Lauren Harrington (52.01) and Shannon Vreeland (47.41) closed out a fruitful day for the Bulldogs with a third-place time of 3:29.43.

Florida (3:30.27), California (3:30.70), Tennessee (3:32.28) and USC (3:34.21) finished fourth through seventh, while Virginia picked up a disqualification in the finale.

The Indiana Hoosiers wound up winning the consolation heat as Brooklynn Snodgrass (51.78), Bronwyn Pasloski (59.18), Gia Dalesandro (51.61) and Kait Flederbach (47.99) finished with a 3:30.56. Arizona (3:31.24) and SMU (3:31.66) took second and third in the B final.

Louisville (3:34.36), Texas (3:34.63), Florida State (3:35.04) and Minnesota (3:35.18) also picked up team points in the consolation heat, while Alabama drew a disqualification.

Team Standings
1.
