{"id":517925,"date":"2022-12-14T03:34:51","date_gmt":"2022-12-14T10:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=517925"},"modified":"2022-12-16T13:43:13","modified_gmt":"2022-12-16T20:43:13","slug":"world-championships-day-two-finals-maggie-mac-neil-torri-huske-tie-for-gold-in-the-50-fly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-two-finals-maggie-mac-neil-torri-huske-tie-for-gold-in-the-50-fly\/","title":{"rendered":"World Championships, Day Two Finals: Maggie Mac Neil &#038; Torri Huske Tie For Gold In The 50 Fly"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>World Championships, Day Two Women&#8217;s Finals: Maggie Mac Neil &amp; Torri Huske Tie For Gold In The 50 Fly<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Maggie Mac Neil<\/strong> and <strong>Torri Huske<\/strong> tied for gold in the women&#8217;s 50 fly after the Canadian came from eighth at halfway at the <strong>World Short-Course Championships<\/strong> in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2022\/16th-fina-world-swimming-championships-25m-live-results\">Live\u00a0 results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2022-world-short-course-championships-day-2-day-2\/international-elite\/2022\/December\/14?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day 2 Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Melanie Henique<\/strong> led at halfway ahead of Huske with Mac Neil &#8211; who took two breaths on the first 25 &#8211; 0.37 off the lead.<\/p>\n<p>But a huge turn and underwaters propelled the Canadian forward, reaching into the wall with Huske nailing her touch as the pair dead-heated in 24.64.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zhang Yufei<\/strong> glided into the wall for third in 24.71.<\/p>\n<p>It was Mac Neil&#8217;s fifth world short-course title after she claimed four golds last year in Abu Dhabi and Huske&#8217;s second of the night after she anchored the USA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-united-states-demolish-world-record-in-mixed-4x50m-medley-relay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mixed medley relay in world-record time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Splits:<\/p>\n<p>Huske: 11.26\/13.38<\/p>\n<p>Mac Neil: 11.55\/13.09<\/p>\n<p>Zhang: 11.34\/13.37<\/p>\n<p>The medal ceremony saw the two women top the podium together with both national anthems being played, &#8216;O Canada&#8217; coming first followed by the &#8216;Star-Spangled Banner&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Mac Neil &#8211; the Olympic 100 fly champion &#8211; said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;It is fly so it adds a certain amount of pressure on me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;There&#8217;s a lot of learning that I can still do to get better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I had some great swims so far and some longer ones ahead.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was two golds and a world record in one session for Huske who said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I was really excited to be on the mixed medley. IIt was easier to keep the momentum going because the guys gave me a tremendous lead and I didn&#8217;t want to let the team down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Starting this way gave all of us a positive attitude about our races tonight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I had a lot of adrenaline going into that race (50m fly).
