But on Friday night, during the third day of the Winter Juniors Championships-West, Phelps&#8217; mark finally fell.<\/p>\n<p>Two days removed from setting an NAG standard in the 200 freestyle, <strong>Maximus Williamson<\/strong> crushed Phelps&#8217; record in the 400 IM when he produced a swim of 3:39.83 in Austin. Williamson&#8217;s time shaved more than two seconds off Phelps&#8217; mark and is among a bevy of NAG standards that have been set during the past few days.<\/p>\n<p>Representing Lakeside Aquatic Club, Williamson attacked from the start, going through the opening butterfly leg in 49.81. He followed with a 54.09 split on backstroke and kept the momentum going with a breaststroke effort of 1:05.41. With Phelps&#8217; record clearly in sight, Williamson closed his race in style, splitting 50.52 for the freestyle leg. He was followed to the wall by Lakeside teammate <strong>Lucas Cooper<\/strong>, who registered a time of 3:42.09.<\/p>\n<p>Williamson backed up his record-breaking showing in the 400 IM by pulling out a narrow win in the 200 freestyle. Rallying down the stretch, Williamson posted a time of 1:33.60 to beat <strong>Rex Maurer<\/strong> (1:33.69). Williamson trailed going into the final 50 yards, but a closing split of 23.21 was enough to reel in Maurer, who closed in 23.66. Williamson added a third title by winning the 100 backstroke in 46.90.<\/p>\n<p>Williamson is one of several rising stars in the American arsenal, alongside fellow NAG record-setters <strong>Thomas Heilman<\/strong> and <strong>Daniel<\/strong> <strong>Diehl<\/strong>. Williamson&#8217;s NAG record on Friday complemented a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/maximus-williamson-beats-200-free-15-16-nag-record-as-relays-kick-off-junior-nationals-west\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">record in the 200 freestyle<\/a> from Wednesday, when the 16-year-old clocked 1:33.07.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.txlameetresults.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<pre><b> Event 14
