{"id":517370,"date":"2022-12-07T19:41:06","date_gmt":"2022-12-08T02:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=517370"},"modified":"2022-12-07T19:41:06","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T02:41:06","slug":"maximus-williamson-beats-200-free-15-16-nag-record-as-relays-kick-off-junior-nationals-west","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/maximus-williamson-beats-200-free-15-16-nag-record-as-relays-kick-off-junior-nationals-west\/","title":{"rendered":"Maximus Williamson Beats 200 Free 15-16 NAG Record as Relays Kick Off Junior Nationals West"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Maximus Williamson Beats 200 Free 15-16 NAG Record as Relays Kick Off Junior Nationals West<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the Sandpipers of Nevada provided the highlight of relay night at Winter Junior Nationals West in Austin, Texas, as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/bella-sims-moves-to-no-8-all-time-in-200-free-sandpipers-crush-nag-relay-record-at-juniors-west\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Bella Sims<\/strong> and co. broke the 15-18 NAG record in the 800 freestyle relay by 10 seconds<\/a>, the Wednesday night session saw plenty of other sizzling swims, most notably in the boys&#8217; 800 free relay as\u00a0<strong>Maximus Williamson<\/strong> lowered an age group mark of his own while leading Lakeside Aquatic Club to a four-second win.<\/p>\n<p>Williamson led off the relay in 1:33.07, breaking the 15-16 National Age Group record of 1:33.30 set in 2017 by\u00a0<strong>Drew Kibler<\/strong>, who went on to become an NCAA champion for the University of Texas and a 2021 Olympian. After Williamson,\u00a0<strong>Cooper Lucas <\/strong>split 1:34.13 before <strong>Max Hatcher<\/strong> and <strong>River Paulk<\/strong> finished in 6:22.78 to break the Junior Nationals meet record of 6:23.21 set by Carmel in 2019 and the Juniors West record of 6:29.57 set by Rose Bowl last year.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s\u00a0Rose Bowl team, which consisted of returnees\u00a0<strong>Zach Larrick<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Rex Maurer<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Nathan Kim<\/strong> plus newcomer\u00a0<strong>Ray Liu<\/strong>, finished in 6:26.77 to also break the previous West meet record. Maurer was the top swimmer with his 1:33.42 second leg. Nitro&#8217;s <strong>Sonny Wang<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Danny Bishop<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jeremy Kelly<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Oliver Rowe<\/strong> took third in 6:28.33, also under last year&#8217;s record.<\/p>\n<p>Rose Bowl did get the win in the 200 medley relay with\u00a0<strong>Max Cahill<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Daniel Li<\/strong>, Kim and Maurer combining for a time of 1:27.17.
