{"id":516910,"date":"2022-12-01T05:37:01","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T12:37:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=516910"},"modified":"2022-12-01T05:37:01","modified_gmt":"2022-12-01T12:37:01","slug":"an-inside-look-at-swimmer-emotions-on-race-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/an-inside-look-at-swimmer-emotions-on-race-day\/","title":{"rendered":"An Inside Look At Swimmer Emotions on Race Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>An Inside Look At Swimmer Emotions on Race Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You are awakened in the morning\u2019s early hours by an alarm blaring for you to get up and prepare for today\u2019s swim meet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cOh man, I wish I could sleep in today.&#8221;<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though it would be nice to sleep in a little longer, you know you have to get up and start getting ready for your meet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cThis is tortuous, but I must leave on time to make it.\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To get to the meet in time for warmups and make it through the entire day, you convince yourself to go to the kitchen and eat breakfast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cMaybe I can have breakfast in bed because the kitchen is so far away.\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After eating breakfast, you gather all the swim gear you\u2019ll need for the meet, including your suit, cap, and goggles, and rush for the pool.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<strong>Let\u2019s go. I feel like everyone\u2019s there already. I\u2019m going to be late!\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You arrive at the pool and immediately go to the locker room to change into your practice suit because you must start stretching for warmups.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cWhere\u2019s my suit? I know I packed it in my bag somewhere.\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you\u2019re done with your stretching warmup, it\u2019s time to find a lane for warmups before the pool gets too crowded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>&#8220;I need to find an open lane. Maybe I can fit into that small space between 200 other swimmers.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You know that warmups are always crowded, and you are not looking forward to cramming into a lane with 30 other swimmers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cI\u2019m so not looking forward to getting kicked in the face again.\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You jump in the pool and start to warm up so that you\u2019ll be ready for your races later in the meet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cWhy is the water always so cold?\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your lane is starting to get crowded, and you find yourself waiting on the wall so that you can find a break between swimmers to finish your warmup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cCome on. I only have a 100 left to swim!\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You finally decide that you\u2019ve warmed up enough and exit the pool onto a nice open pool deck because all the swimmers are warming up in the pool.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cI wish my warmup lane was this empty.\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You return to your swim bag to change into your suit and head to the locker room.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cNow it\u2019s time for the fun part.\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can wear <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/an-explanation-of-how-tech-suits-benefit-swimmers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tech suits<\/a> for this meet, so luckily you brought one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cI want to get some best times today.\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s always a struggle to put on a suit when you\u2019re not fully dry, and you prepare to spend the next 30 minutes in the locker room just getting your suit on.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cI can\u2019t wait to cram my body into a tight tech suit.\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you finally finish putting your suit on, you leave the locker room and head back to where your team is sitting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cI am so excited about racing today!\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You know your first event is coming up, so you look at the heat sheet and hop back into the pool to warm up for your race.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cI have to warm up a little more and test out my suit.\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you exit the pool, you go behind the blocks and start your pre-race routine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cI have to go super fast to win my race!\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You hear the whistle blow to signal the swimmers to get on the blocks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cI have been training literally forever, and I\u2019m so ready!\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You hear the starter say, \u201cTake your mark,\u201d and then the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BEEEP!\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>\u201cI\u2019m going to
