Ledecky was honored as USA Swimming&#8217;s Female Athlete of the Year after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/the-building-blocks-of-a-record-medal-haul-unprecedented-five-peat-for-katie-ledecky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she won four gold medals at the FINA World Championships<\/a> in Budapest, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-katie-ledecky-pulls-away-from-summer-mcintosh-to-retake-400-free-world-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">400 freestyle<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-katie-ledecky-annihilates-field-for-another-1500-freestyle-title-katie-grimes-completes-u-s-1-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1500 free<\/a>, 800 free relay and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-katie-ledecky-wins-800-free-first-to-win-5-straight-world-titles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">800 free<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ledecky was the winner of this award ahead of five other nominees including\u00a0<strong>Alex Walsh<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Katie Grimes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Lilly King<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Regan Smith<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Torri Huske<\/strong>, but the fourth 400-800-1500 world-title sweep of her career made her a shoo-in for the top athlete award. A much more competitive category was the Female Race of the Year, where Ledecky&#8217;s fifth-consecutive world title in the 800 free was matched up against gold-medal-winning swims from Walsh (200 IM), King (200 breaststroke), Smith (100 backstroke) and Huske (100 butterfly), but Ledecky was again victorious in that category.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Even <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/katieledecky?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@katieledecky<\/a> had to get her start somewhere \ud83d\ude04 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8povYOQAYj\">pic.twitter.com\/8povYOQAYj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; USA Swimming (@USASwimming) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USASwimming\/status\/1594873188151959553?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 22, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Ledecky won a third Golden Goggle as part of the Relay of the Year. The team of\u00a0<strong>Claire Weinstein<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Leah Smith<\/strong>, Ledecky and\u00a0<strong>Bella Sims<\/strong> earned the honor for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-katie-ledecky-bella-sims-propel-u-s-women-to-upset-gold-in-800-free-relay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an upset win over Australia<\/a> in which Ledecky posted the third-fastest split in history to take the lead and Sims had the race of a lifetime to pull away from Aussie anchor\u00a0<strong>Mollie O&#8217;Callaghan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side,\u00a0<strong>Bobby Finke<\/strong> secured top honors as Male Athlete of the Year following a year when he concluded his college career at Florida with an NCAA title in the 1650-yard free and then returned to the international stage in style. One year after winning a pair of Olympic gold medals in the 800 and 1500 free in upset fashion, Finke won the world title in the 800 free, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-bobby-finke-becomes-first-american-man-to-win-800-free-world-crown-wellbrock-romanchuk-on-podium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">swimming an American-record time of 7:39.36, a full 2.5 seconds ahead of his Olympic-gold-medal-winning mark from one year earlier in Tokyo<\/a>. Finke also won Worlds silver in the 1500 free, also setting an American record in that event. In addition to the 800 free relay gold, Smith won bronze behind Ledecky and\u00a0<strong>Summer McIntosh<\/strong> in the 400 free while just missing the podium in the 800 free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anthony Nesty<\/strong> was given <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USASwimming\/status\/1594886267891761153\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coach of the Year<\/a> honors after he led the U.S. men&#8217;s team at the World Championships while also coaching Ledecky, Finke,\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Kieran Smith<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Natalie Hinds<\/strong> onto the Worlds team.
