{"id":516557,"date":"2022-11-19T11:18:27","date_gmt":"2022-11-19T18:18:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=516557"},"modified":"2022-11-20T12:04:17","modified_gmt":"2022-11-20T19:04:17","slug":"kaii-winkler-shines-as-bolles-sweeps-florida-1a-state-championship-titles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kaii-winkler-shines-as-bolles-sweeps-florida-1a-state-championship-titles\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaii Winkler Shines As Bolles Sweeps Florida 1A State Championship Titles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kaii Winkler Shines As Bolles Sweeps Florida 1A State Championship Titles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2022 Florida 1A State Swimming and Diving Championships took place on Friday, Nov. 18 at the Sailfish Splash Waterpark and Aquatics Center in Staurt, Fla.<\/p>\n<p>Click\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2022-florida-1a-state-championships\/high-school\/2022\/November\/18?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>for full results and team scores.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kaii Winkler\u00a0<\/strong>stole the show, breaking the 15-16 National Age Group record in the 100 free with a blazing time of 42.52. His performance bettered the previous standard in the 15-16 classification of 42.67. The old mark was set in 2014 by <strong>Ryan Hoffer<\/strong>, who went on to enjoy an NCAA-championship career at Cal.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to breaking the NAG record in the 100 free, Winkler, a sophomore who is homeschooled, shined in the 200 freestyle, where he clocked a winning mark of 1:34.18. That time was less than a second off the NAG mark of 1:33.30, set in 2017 by future Olympian <strong>Drew Kibler<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top 5 Girls Team Scores:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Bolles (Jacksonville) &#8211; 374<br \/>\n2. The King&#8217;s Academy &#8211; 237<br \/>\n3. Saint Andrew&#8217;s School &#8211; 229<br \/>\n4. South Florida Heat &#8211; 190<br \/>\n5. Cutler Bay Senior High School &#8211; 148<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top 5 Boys Team Scores:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Bolles (Jacksonville) &#8211; 546<br \/>\n2. South Florida Heat &#8211; 182<br \/>\n3. Saint Andrew&#8217;s School &#8211; 172.5<br \/>\n4. Pine Crest (Fort Lauderdale) &#8211; 162<br \/>\n5. The King&#8217;s Academy &#8211; 133.5<\/p>\n<p><strong>Erika Pelaez<\/strong> also broke a state record at the meet, doing so in the 100 fly with a winning time of 52.12. She then followed up that performance with a state record in the 100 back, stopping the clock in a swift 51.78. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nc-state-picks-up-2024-verbal-pledge-from-national-junior-teamer-erika-pelaez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NC State commit<\/a> is a junior who is homeschooled.<\/p>\n<p>Another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/florida-state-record-holder-will-heck-verbally-commits-to-nc-state-for-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NC State commit<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>Will Heck<\/strong>, broke his own state record in the 100 breast during prelims with a time of 52.38. He was slightly off that time during prelims, finishing in 53.60.
