Anna Peplowski led off before handing off to Mackenzie Looze, Elizabeth Broshears and Kristina Peagle. They were 1.3 seconds clear of runner-up UCLA (1:37.28). The shock, though, was top-seeded Ohio State getting DQed. At a seed time of 1:35.28, they were hunting an A cut.

Men’s 200 medley relay

Rafael Miroslaw’s stellar anchor leg of 18.95 seconds rallied Indiana to the win in 1:24.09, though they were about a quarter-second shy of an NAA A cut. Luke Barr, Van Mathias and Tomer Frankel rounded out that foursome.

The Hoosiers trailed Virginia Tech after three legs, in part because Youssef Ramadan went 19.95 on his leg. They ended up second in 1:24.21, .15 seconds up on Ohio State (with Ruslan Gaziev’s 18.89 anchor).

Women’s 100 butterfly

After finishing a distant fourth in prelims in the morning, Katherine Zenick went out fast and held off the field to win the event in 52.06. The Ohio State junior was in front by a half-second after a 24.10 opening 50 and held off the charge by the field to get to the wall first.

Second was Coleen Gillian of Notre Dame in 52.24, .06 up on OSU’s Morgan Kraus. The top seed from prelims, UCLA’s Gabby Dang, was a second slower at night in seventh place at 53.19. Her 52.00 from the morning would’ve won the race.

Men’s 100 butterfly

Speaking of Ramadan, not making the A final might have left the Virginia Tech junior slightly miffed. He took it out on the B final of the 100 fly, cracking a 45.13 that was nearly two seconds quicker than the rest of the consolation final.

It was also faster than the A final winner, Ohio State’s Alex Quach, who went 45.14. The sophomore delivered an outstanding swim to swamp a trio of Indiana contenders – Brendan Burns (45.81), Frankel (45.88) and Finn Brooks (46.10).

Women’s 400 individual medley

Kentucky classmates Lauren Poole and Gillian Davey went stroke for stroke the last 150 yards, but Poole was the one who pulled it out in the final yards, going 4:07.13 to upend her teammate. Davey got second in 4:07.36, after having been the top seed in the morning. Poole’s final 50 split of 28.26 made the difference, Davey going 28.53.

Third was Paige Maceachern of UCLA in 4:09.49. Looze also got under 4:10 at 4:09.67.

Men’s 400 individual medley

Jack Hoagland routed the field with a time of 3:43.52, nearly five seconds clear. Ohio State’s Fabio Dalu was closest in 3:48.40, and the only two other sub-3:50 times came from the B final – Indiana’s Tristan DeWitt and Cincinnati’s Spencer Sehlhorst.

Women’s 200 freestyle

Much like the 100 fly, the fastest time in the morning was quicker that at night. And like Dang, Amy Fulmer had to settle for second in finals.

Anna Peplowski bested the field in the final with a time of 1:44.19. That hopped her past Fulmer, who went 1:44.70 for silver. She had been 1:44.04 in the morning.

Men’s 200 freestyle

Miroslaw and Gaziev reprised their battle from the anchor leg of the relay in the 200. Again, it was the Indiana sophomore who came out on top, going 1:33.32 to Gaziev’s 1:33.82. They separated from the field early, with Yale’s Noah Millard getting third in 1:34.70.

Women’s 100 breaststroke

Noelle Peplowski turned third at the midway point but charged home, going 59.17 to win. That’s .08 faster than the fifth-year senior was in the morning. Josie Panitz of Ohio State hit her morning time exactly to finish second in 59.32. Teammate Leah Baker joined her under a minute at 59.65.

Men’s 100 breaststroke

Jassen Yep led three Hoosiers in the top four with a winning time of 52.05. Third was Josh Matheny in 52.30, with Max Reich following in 52.84, exactly matching his prelims time. In between was Virginia Tech’s Carles Coll Marti in 52.19 for second place.

Women’s 100 backstroke

Anna Peplowski used a back-half effort to get to the wall first in 52.12. The sophomore had been third at the 50 but came home in 26.35. She spoiled a win for the top-seeded Caitlin Brooks, the Kentucky senior having been out in 25.22 but getting second in 52.40.

Ohio State’s Nyah Funderburke finished third in 52.67. Virginia Tech freshman Carmen Weiler Sastre finished fourth to go with third in the 200 free.

Men’s 100 backstroke

Burns augmented his runner-up fly finish with a win in the 100 back, going 46.01 to defend his top seed. He was .45 up on teammate Gavin Wright, who grabbed second. Thomas Watkins slid into third place in 47.06, with four trailers within three four tenths of him.

Women’s 1-meter diving

Kyndal Knight made it a springboard sweep, the Kentucky grad student scoring 329.25 points to claim victory. She had set a school record in the 3-meter event a night earlier.

Second place went to Lena Hentschel of Ohio State with 316.25. Indiana teammates Anne Folwer and Megan Carter followed.

Men’s 3- meter diving

After finishing as the runner-up on 1-meter, Maxwell Flory got the win on 3-meter by the slimmest of margins. His score of 425.70 just edged out Carson Tyler’s 425.15 to get the win. Third was Flory’s Miami teammate Brodie Scapens, while Quinn Henninger of Indiana also topped 400 points.

Women’s 800 freestyle relay

Kentucky placed three swimmers in the top nine of the 200 free, and the payoff came in the relay with a winning time of 7:06.18. Izzy Gati, Kaitlynn Wheeler, Beth McNeese and Poole got the job done, Wheeler leading the way. After being fifth in the 200 free, she uncorked a 1:45.70 that put the Wildcats into clean water and allowed them to fend off the charge by Indiana.

Anna Peplowski put Indiana in the lead with her leadoff leg of 1:45.95, but Kentucky rallied soon after Wheeler’s handoff, leading for good at the 550-yard mark. With Ella Ristic, Ching Gan and Looze, the Hoosiers went 7:06.45. Third went to Ohio State in 7:07.30, thanks in large part to Fulmer blasting a 1:43.63 coming home.

Men’s 800 freestyle relay

Indiana finished the night by prevailing in a tight 800 free relay with the squad of Miroslaw, Mathias, Burns and Frankel. Mathias supplied the fastest leg in 1:33.34 on the way to a time of 6:22.51. Frankel held off a charge by Gaziev, who went 1:34.43, as Ohio State took second place in 6:23.13. Notre Dame, with Colton Paulson going 1:34.95, was third in 6:23.52.

Ohio State Invitational: Indiana’s Peplowski Sisters Claim Four Wins Indiana’s Peplowski sisters finished the second evening session of the Ohio State Invitational in style Friday night.
