Benedetta Pilato Among 20-Strong Italy Squad For World Short-Course Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Thomas Ceccon &amp; Benedetta Pilato Among 20-Strong Italy Squad For World Short-Course Championships<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Thomas Ceccon<\/strong> and <strong>Benedetta Pilato<\/strong> are among four individual world champions named in a 20-strong Italy squad for the <strong>World Short-Course Championships<\/strong> in Melbourne next month.<\/p>\n<p>Ceccon has been a standout performer on the international stage this year during which he set <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-thomas-ceccon-crushes-world-record-to-claim-100-back-world-title\/\">a 100m backstroke world record<\/a> of 51.60 en-route to the title at the World Championships to add to relay gold and bronze in Budapest in June.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old then went on to win <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/european-championships-thomas-ceccon-becomes-first-italian-man-to-win-100-back\/\">four gold and two silver medals<\/a> at the European Championships in August.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;ll travel to Australia 12 months on from claiming men&#8217;s medley relay gold among four medals at the 2021 short-course event in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>Pilato <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-benedetta-pilato-touches-out-elendt-meilutyte-for-100-breast-world-title-lilly-king-fourth\/\">took the 100br title in Budapest<\/a> ahead of <strong>Anna Elendt<\/strong> of Germany and Lithuania&#8217;s <strong>Ruta Meilutyte<\/strong>, both of whom will also compete in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>Meilutyte then turned the tables in the 50 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-lithuanian-ruta-meilutyte-wins-gold-in-the-50m-breaststroke-10-years-after-winning-olympic-gold-in-london\/\">when she won gold<\/a> ahead of the Italian.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/european-championships-ruta-meilutyte-fends-off-benedetta-pilato-for-50-breaststroke-title\/\">Come the Europeans<\/a> and Pilato repeated her gold and silver-medal performances.<\/p>\n<p>Martinenghi claimed his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-nicolo-martinenghi-takes-100m-breaststroke-title-ahead-of-kamminga-fink\/\">first world title over 100br in Budapest<\/a> before going on to take the 50\/100 double in Rome while Paltrinieri completed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-gregorio-paltrinieri-wins-10km-1500m-double-sharon-van-rouwendaal-claims-first-world-title\/\">1500 free\/10km double<\/a> in Hungary.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian team for the World Short-Course Championships in Melbourne from 13-18 December:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Simona Quadarella (CC Aniene)<br \/>\nMargherita\u00a0Panziera (Fiamme Oro\/CC Aniene)<br \/>\nBenedetta Pilato (Fiamme Oro\/CC Aniene)<br \/>\nCostanza Cocconcelli (Fiamme Gialle\/NC Azzurra 91)<br \/>\nSara Franceschi (Fiamme Gialle\/Livorno Aquatics)<br \/>\nIlaria Cusinato (Fiamme oro\/Team Veneto)<br \/>\nSilvia Scalia (Fiamme Gialle\/CC Aniene)<br \/>\nSilvia Di Pietro (Carabinieri\/CC Aniene)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leonardo Deplano (Carabinieri\/CC Aniene)<br \/>\nAlessandro Miressi (Fiamme Oro\/CN Torino)<br \/>\nPaolo Conte Bonin (Team Veneto)<br \/>\nManuel Frigo (Fiamme Oro\/Team Veneto)<br \/>\nMatteo Ciampi (Esercito\/Livorno Aquatics)<br \/>\nGregorio Paltrinieri (Fiamme Oro\/Coopernuoto)<br \/>\nLorenzo Mora (Vigili del Fuoco\/Amici Nuoto Modena)<br \/>\nThomas Ceccon (Fiamme Oro\/Leosport)<br \/>\nNicol\u00f2 Martinenghi (CC Aniene)<br \/>\nSimone Cerasuolo (Fiamme Oro\/Imolanuoto)<br \/>\nMatteo Rivolta (Fiamme Oro\/CC Aniene)<br \/>\nAlberto Razzetti (Fiamme Gialle\/Genova Nuoto My Sport)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thomas Ceccon &amp;
