David Popovici<\/strong> wrapped up the Romanian Short Course Championships with flair on Sunday, as he claimed victory in the 400-meter freestyle. The 18-year-old star clocked a time of 3:43.00, which was quick enough to turn back a challenge by Vlad Stancu<\/strong>, who recorded a time of 3:43.76. Stancu is a 17-year-old rising star who, along with Popovici, has given Romania reason to be excited about the nation’s potential in the years ahead.<\/p>\n

Prior to winning the 400 freestyle in Otopeni, Popovici had already claimed titles in the 100 freestyle<\/a> and 200 freestyle, and was the runnerup in a close battle in the 100 individual medley. By extending himself to the 400 freestyle, Popovici demonstrated his freestyle range. Next month, Popovici is scheduled to race at the FINA<\/a> World Short Course Championships in Melbourne. Popovici has enjoyed a superb 2022 campaign, highlighted by a world record of 46.86 in the 100 freestyle and gold medals in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle at the World Champs in Budapest.
