Elite Recruit Annika Parkhe Breaks Own 100 Butterfly Record At Illinois State Championships\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 2022 Illinois Girls State Swimming and Diving Championships took place from November 11-12 at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont, Ill.<\/span><\/p>\n

New Trier used its impressive depth to clinch its second-straight team title with 149.5 points, just slightly ahead of runner-up Hinsdale Central (131). St. Charles North (128) rounded out the top three teams.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Deerfield\u2019s <\/span>Annika Parkhe<\/b>, one of the top recruits in her class, cruised to first in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:45.60. Barrington\u2019s <\/span>Jenna Kerr <\/b>also cracked the 1:50-barrer in 1:47.62 for second place, distancing herself from third-place finisher <\/span>Kayla Newman <\/b>(1:51.64) of Highland Park.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The 200 IM proved to be a tight race as only one-tenth separated gold and silver. Winning the event was <\/span>Julieta Tracy <\/b>of St. Ignatius College Prep while <\/span>Izzy Beu <\/b>of St. Charles North took a close second in 2:00.38. Third went to Chloe Diner<\/strong> (2:02.19) of Oswego Co-op.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The lone swimmer breaking the 23-second marker in the 50 free was Hinsdale Central\u2019s <\/span>Kit Schneider <\/b>who touched the wall in a winning time of 22.59. St. Charles North\u2019s <\/span>Tessali Stavropoulos <\/b>(23.02) and WM Fremd\u2019s <\/span>Katie Kuehn <\/b>(23.08) finished second and third, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Not too long after winning the 200 free, Parkhe dove back in and flew to first place in the 100 fly in a gold-medal-worthy time of 52.13. Her time broke her own state record of 52.72 set at this meet last year. Two seconds back was Rosary <\/span>Becky Rentz <\/b>(54.12) for the runner-up spot while Adlai E. Stevenson\u2019s <\/span>Milena Busma <\/b>and Niles North\u2019s <\/span>Aimee Duhamel <\/b>tied for third in 54.64.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The 100 free was also a close one, with Tracy claiming yet another state championship title after sprinting to the wall in 50.42. Close behind was New Trier\u2019s <\/span>Tierney Lenahan <\/b>in 50.88 for second while Stravropoulos held on for third in 50.95.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Five swimmers snuck under the five-minute mark in the 500 free, led by none other than Kerr. After taking second in the 200 free earlier, Kerr redeemed herself to dominate the event in 4:46.30 with a new pool record. She was well ahead of the field as Oswego Co-op\u2019s <\/span>Katie Gresk <\/b>(4:57.64) and Hinsdale Central\u2019s <\/span>Burlingtyn Bokos <\/b>(4:58.20) rounded out the top three.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Sharing the top of the podium after a tie for first place in the 100 back was Rolling Meadow\u2019s <\/span>Vera Conic <\/b>and Lenahan, who both powered to the wall in a final time of 55.09. Loyola Academy\u2019s <\/span>Maria Cheng <\/b>was about a half-second behind in 55.56 for third place.<\/span><\/p>\n

    It was yet another close battle to end the individual races in the 100 breast, with Hinsdale Central\u2019s <\/span>Carolina Kramer <\/b>hanging on to clinch the state title in 1:02.30. New Trier\u2019s <\/span>Charlize Escasa <\/b>was right behind her in 1:02.47 for second, followed closely by her teammate <\/span>Maggie Papanicholas <\/b>in 1:02.52 for third.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Cary Grove\u2019s <\/span>Maggie Bendell <\/b>dove to first place on the 1-meter diving event with a final mark of 462.50. Glenbrook South\u2019s <\/span>Jacki Stadler <\/b>was the runner-up with a score of 450.80 while WM Fremd\u2019s <\/span>Que Genet <\/b>recorded a score of 444.50 for third.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Naperville North\u2019s <\/span>Reese Navarro <\/b>was the winner of the 200 free (2:29.10) and 100 breast (1:51.55) for Class B. Bradley <\/span>Bourbonnais<\/span>\u2019 <\/span>Savannah Zirbel <\/b>won the 100 breast (1:40.79) for Class A and the 50 free (32.47) for Class B. Saint Charles North\u2019s <\/span>Maya Townsend <\/b>was the champion in the 50 free (1:57.10) for Class A.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
