{"id":516155,"date":"2022-11-10T11:06:21","date_gmt":"2022-11-10T18:06:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=516155"},"modified":"2022-11-10T11:12:34","modified_gmt":"2022-11-10T18:12:34","slug":"michigan-sweep-big-ten-weekly-awards-on-mens-side","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michigan-sweep-big-ten-weekly-awards-on-mens-side\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan Sweeps Big Ten Weekly Awards on Men\u2019s Side"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Michigan Sweep Big Ten Weekly Awards on Men\u2019s Side<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University of Michigan\u2019s men\u2019s team swept the Big Ten Weekly Awards, <a href=\"https:\/\/bigten.org\/news\/2022\/11\/9\/general-michigan-sweeps-mens-swimming-and-diving-weekly-awards.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced by the conference on Wednesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wyatt Davis<\/strong> was named the men\u2019s swimmer of the week for his performance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michigan-men-beat-purdue-women-take-down-emu-and-ohio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in meet wins over Purdue<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/wyatt-davis-casey-chung-lead-michigan-to-sweep-of-northwestern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and Northwestern<\/a>. <strong>Cameron Gammage<\/strong> nabbed diver of the week honors, while <strong>Eitan Ben-Shitrit<\/strong> was deemed the top freshman.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/bigten.org\/news\/2022\/11\/9\/general-big-ten-announces-weekly-swimming-and-diving-awards.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">women\u2019s awards<\/a> were split, with <strong>Jasmine Nocentini<\/strong> of Northwestern as the swimmer of the week, Penn State\u2019s <strong>Daphne Wils<\/strong> as the top diver and Wisconsin\u2019s <strong>Blair Stoneburg<\/strong> as the leading rookie.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-ten-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Ten Swimming<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Davis, a junior from Carmel, Indiana, won five individual events and two relays in dual-meet triumphs over Purdue and Northwestern. His time in the 100 backstroke of 46.91 is a conference-leading mark this season and the 11th fastest in the nation. It\u2019s his second career swimmer of the week nod.<\/p>\n<p>Gammage won both diving events in the meet against Northwestern. His score of 365.80 took home victory in 1-meter against the Wildcats. The sophomore from England also won the 1-meter event against Purdue.<\/p>\n<p>Ben-Shitrit posted three times this weekend that rank in the top 10 in the Big Ten this season. The Israel international\u2019s time in the 200 individual medley of 1:48.63 is fifth in the conference this year. He added top-10 times in the 200 free (1:37.97) and 400 IM (3:58.26).<\/p>\n<p>Nocentini headlined the women\u2019s Big Ten Weekly Awards for the second consecutive week. The junior from Padova, Italy, won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.06, an NCAA B cut and the conference\u2019s fastest time this season. She also won the 100 freestyle in an NCAA B cut of 49.44 and helped the Wildcats win the 200 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>Wils, a graduate student from the Netherlands and transfer from the University of Hawaii, set two school and pool records in her first meet as a Nittany Lion. She won 1-meter diving, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/diver-daphne-wils-sets-two-school-records-as-penn-state-tops-west-virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a meet against West Virginia<\/a>, with a score of 312.60 and tallied 356.10 to win 3-meter. She\u2019s the first Penn State diver to earn a Big Ten Weekly Awards recognition since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Stoneburg starred in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/phoebe-bacon-wes-jekel-pace-wisconsin-to-sweep-of-minnesota\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wisconsin\u2019s win over Minnesota<\/a>. She won the 500 freestyle in 4:49.53 and was part of a wining 400 free relay squad.
