2023<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> has demonstrated his commitment to leaving a legacy with the announcement of the inaugural <strong>AP Race London International<\/strong> to be held at the <strong>London Aquatics Centre<\/strong> on the British Spring Bank Holiday in May 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The competition will run for three days from 27-29 May at the iconic venue that played host to the <strong>2012 Olympics<\/strong> and will feature international and domestic swimmers through to grassroots initiatives.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/events.aprace.club\/events\/aprace-international-2023\/watch\/\">Buy Tickets<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While the field is yet to be finalised, triple Olympic champion Peaty will compete along with fellow members of <strong>Mel Marshall<\/strong>&#8216;s training group and medallists on the international stage.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hoped many international swimmers will move on to London from the <strong>Mare Nostrum<\/strong> tour which concludes on 21 May 2023 as part of their preparation for the <strong>World Championships<\/strong> in Fukuoka in July.<\/p>\n<p>In turn emerging domestic swimmers will get the opportunity to take on an international field.<\/p>\n<p>Swimmers from clubs in Newham, Hackney, Waltham Forest and Tower Hamlets, the four boroughs surrounding the Olympic Park, will also be involved.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ll compete in sprint finals across all four strokes at the start of the finals session as part of AP Race and London Aquatics Centre\u2019s commitment to working together at grassroots level.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Inaugural AP Race London International Announced\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6RmfJBgs-k4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The meet \u2013 which is supported by <strong>British Swimming<\/strong> \u2013 is the brainchild of Peaty and Ed Baxter, the founders of the AP brand which has been delivering race clinics since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>It is pending FINA approval and will offer a qualification opportunity for World Championships and Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be produced by <strong>John Bailey<\/strong>, the man behind the FINA World Cup events and US Olympic trials, with echoes of the ISL, showcasing swimming as a sport of entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>The AP Race International is the first of its kind in Britain and the goal is to combine athlete, coach and spectator experience and grassroots inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty told Swimming World:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019m quite aware that international meets or meets in general other than championships are quite dull.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey don\u2019t really have much spice and it\u2019s just the same kind of routine or same kind competition you see year on year with no real development or no real challenge to change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the AP International for us is an event that offers a little bit of a different twist.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_516151\" style=\"width: 342px\" his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/race-video-official-adam-peaty-world-record-footage\/\">first world record in the 100m breaststroke<\/a> in April 2015, his time of 57.92 making him the first man inside the 58-second barrier.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cameron van der Burgh<\/strong> had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2012-london-olympics-cameron-van-der-burghs-world-record-ends-kosuke-kitajimas-threepeat-bid-in-100-breast-hansen-medals\/\">set the previous WR of 58.46<\/a> in the same lane four en-route to the Olympic title in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty has only raced there twice since that world record \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-matches-26-66-sizzler-win-50-breast-euros\/\">at the 2016 European Championships<\/a> where he won four gold medals and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-unleashes-57-39-over-100br-now-owns-the-top-20-performances-in-history\/\">British trials<\/a> ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>He added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe London Aquatics Centre \u2013 one of the most famous pools in the world \u2013 not many people get to race in that internationally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very special to me because it\u2019s the one where I remember watching those 2012 Olympics and then my first world record in 2015 in the 100 so it has got heritage, it\u2019s got a lot of inspiration for me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI actually can\u2019t wait \u2013 I can\u2019t wait to race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really about getting as many people in the stands as possible and inspiring and helping the
