{"id":516017,"date":"2022-11-07T14:38:53","date_gmt":"2022-11-07T21:38:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=516017"},"modified":"2022-11-07T14:39:56","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T21:39:56","slug":"kansas-sprint-contingent-leads-to-win-in-border-battle-with-nebraska","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kansas-sprint-contingent-leads-to-win-in-border-battle-with-nebraska\/","title":{"rendered":"Kansas Sprint Contingent Leads to Win in Border Battle with Nebraska"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kansas Sprint Contingent Leads to Win in Border Battle with Nebraska<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Kansas sprint corps came up big <a href=\"https:\/\/kuathletics.com\/kansas-defeats-nebraska-in-jayhawks-for-a-cure-meet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Saturday<\/a>, leading the Jayhawks to a 157-143 win over Nebraska at Robinson Natatorium in Lawrence.<\/p>\n<p>Kansas won both relays and scored big points with a mid-meet 1-2-3 result in the 50 freestyle that put them on course for their third straight dual meet win to start the season.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/kansas-vs-nebraska\/ncaa-college\/2022\/November\/5?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-ten-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Ten Swimming<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-12-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big 12 Swimming<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Autumn Looney<\/strong> clocked in at 24.37 seconds to lead the Jayhawks in the 50. Close behind were <strong>Caroline Blake<\/strong> in 24.38 and <strong>Claire Hyatt<\/strong> in 24.41, edging Nebraska\u2019s top finisher, <strong>Emily Haimes,<\/strong> by .05. Kansas also won the 100 free and 200 free, in both cases thanks to <strong>Ellie Wehrmann.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wehrmann, Looney, <strong>Maggie Moore<\/strong> and Hyatt won the 400 free relay to cap the win, and Hyatt anchored the winning 200 medley relay. Kansas led start to finish in that one, thanks to a stellar leadoff leg from <strong>Lezli Sisung.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sisung also won the 100 and 200 backstroke events. <strong>Molly Robinson<\/strong> claimed the 100 breaststroke, her time of 1:05.53 edging <strong>Jojo Randby<\/strong> of Nebraska by .05 seconds. She was also third in the 200 breast, a spot behind teammate <strong>Brigid Gwidt.<\/strong> Looney was third in the 100 fly, a spot behind <strong>Lydia Lafferty.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kansas also got a big boost in diving, where <strong>Lize Van Leeuwen<\/strong> swept both events. She scored 301.65 on 3-meter, a 1-2 finish with teammate <strong>Gabriela San Juan<\/strong> <strong>Carmona.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kansas\u2019 sprint depth was needed to check the distance prowess of Nebraska. <strong>Genevieve Jorgenson<\/strong> went 10:14.79 to win the 1,000 free, with teammate <strong>Molly Rosenthal<\/strong> second. Jorgenson was second in both the 500 free and 400 individual medley, both times part of podium sweeps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shannon Stott,<\/strong> who won the 200 fly, also claimed the 500 free, with Rosenthal third. Sarah Barton, who was third in the 200 fly, won the 400 IM ahead of Jorgenson and <strong>Berkeley Livingston.
