{"id":515691,"date":"2022-11-04T20:17:27","date_gmt":"2022-11-05T03:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=515691"},"modified":"2022-11-04T20:17:27","modified_gmt":"2022-11-05T03:17:27","slug":"bella-sims-stunned-after-two-world-junior-records-lets-hope-i-sleep-tonight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/bella-sims-stunned-after-two-world-junior-records-lets-hope-i-sleep-tonight\/","title":{"rendered":"Bella Sims Stunned After Two World Junior Records: &#8216;Let&#8217;s Hope I Sleep Tonight!&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bella Sims<\/strong> barely had time to catch her breath after breaking her first world junior record.<\/p>\n<p>It should have been a time for elation and excitement, but Sims didn\u2019t have time for any of that after she broke the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/bella-sims-pops-pair-of-world-junior-records-in-12-minute-span-sets-marks-in-200-freestyle-and-100-backstroke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> world junior record<\/a> in the 200 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Just 12 minutes later, she was back in the water racing the 100 backstroke. And just 12 minutes later, she had another world junior record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI completely did not expect that at all. I was like, \u2018It can\u2019t be a world (junior) record?\u2019\u201d Bella Sims said. \u201cLet\u2019s hope I sleep tonight!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How quick of a turnaround is 12 minutes? Let\u2019s put it this way, it happened faster than teammate <strong>Katie Grimes<\/strong>\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-grimes-sets-world-junior-record-in-special-1500-freestyle-at-indy-world-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">world junior record in the 1500 today<\/a>. Sims had a record, an on-deck interview, a quick cool down, another race, another win and another interview all in less time than Grimes spent in the water during her record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was fun. I have never swam short-course meters before this meet, so it was really fun to explore a new world of swimming. I really enjoyed that,\u201d Bella Sims said.<\/p>\n<p>Sims set the record in the 200 free in 1:52.59 and then 55.75 in the 100 backstroke to win over a loaded field an an event that has not been her primary.<\/p>\n<p>It all adds up to a pretty impressive day for the Sandpipers of Nevada club, with three world junior records in one day coming from the group\u2019s teen Olympians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThree, that is crazy,\u201d Sims said. \u201c(Watching Katie) was amazing. She definitely inspired me today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grimes broke the world junior record in the 1500 freestyle during an afternoon time trial at 15:42.05, then swam the 400 IM (4:27.11) in the evening and somehow had the energy to get second behind <strong>Sydney Pickrem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really do love the 400 IM but I was a little tired from this morning. I didn\u2019t really know what to expect,\u201d Grimes said. \u201cThe field of girls motivated me. The 400 IM field is constantly changing and I am always on my toes. Sydney put up a great battle at the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Katie Grimes has been training for a battle as had Bella Sims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy coaches put me in some pretty tough triples sometimes. But that was the toughest double I have ever done \u2014 the 400 IM is the hardest race in swimming, no doubt,\u201d Grimes said. \u201cIt is only three days of racing so I wanted to get in as many races as I could without overdoing it.\u00a0 We just wanted to see what we could throw down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But despite breaking the record in the 1500, she still wasn\u2019t satisfied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was trying to get a time in, but I am not to happy with it honestly. I think I could have gone a lot faster,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>It is that drive and determination that has showcased what the Sandpipers are all about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is definitely the environment. I love my teammates so much and we just try to motivate each other every day in practice,\u201d Bella Sims said. \u201cWe always push each other and it is the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/competitions\/2958\/fina-swimming-world-cup-2022\/results?discipline=&amp;event=a41e0130-200f-4b6d-9e66-06324d8b1c14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bella Sims barely had time to catch her breath after breaking her first world junior record.
