{"id":515541,"date":"2022-11-04T08:25:13","date_gmt":"2022-11-04T15:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=515541"},"modified":"2022-11-04T08:25:13","modified_gmt":"2022-11-04T15:25:13","slug":"arno-kamminga-to-miss-world-short-course-championships-as-netherlands-announce-16-strong-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arno-kamminga-to-miss-world-short-course-championships-as-netherlands-announce-16-strong-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Arno Kamminga To Miss World Short-Course Championships As Netherlands Announce 16-Strong Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Arno Kamminga To Miss World Short-Course Championships As Netherlands Announce 16-Strong Team<\/h4>\n<p>A 16-strong Netherlands team has been announced for the <strong>World Short-Course Championships<\/strong> in Melbourne next month although double Olympic silver medallist <strong>Arno Kamminga<\/strong> will not be among them.<\/p>\n<p>The team comprises nine women and seven men and features the likes of <strong>Marrit Steenbergen<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/european-championships-marrit-steenbergen-continues-dutch-freestyle-strength-with-200-free-win\/\">who won four golds among an overall medal haul of seven<\/a> at the European Championships in August and<strong> Kira Toussaint<\/strong> and <strong>Nyls Korstanje<\/strong>, who were both part of the mixed medley relay that won the title in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>The team &#8211; where he won silver in the 100 and 200 breaststroke &#8211; which included the ISL, World Cup and World and European Short-Course Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Kamminga won silver in the 100 breaststroke and bronze in the mixed medley at the worlds in Budapest in June but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-olympic-silver-medallist-arno-kamminga-withdraws-from-200-breaststroke\/\">withdrew from the 200 semis<\/a> with illness.<\/p>\n<p>He then had Covid and, Faber now thinks, hadn&#8217;t recovered sufficiently by the time the Europeans came around where he was seventh in the 100br and withdrew from the 200 after winning gold in the mixed medley.<\/p>\n<p><span>Faber told knzb.nl:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span>\u201cArno is now well on the way back to his old level at which he can compete for the medals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;However, the goal is to get even better and go for gold. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;In our &#8216;winning&#8217; plan, the World Championship short course in Melbourne \u2013 including the arduous journey and jet lag \u2013 comes just too early. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;That is why the focus from now on is on the World Championships long-course in Fukuoka (July 2023) and Doha (February 2024) and the Paris Games.
