Second was Haughey in 1:53.54.<\/p>\n<p>Haughey has won both previous World Cup 200 free races, in Berlin and Toronto. She\u2019s looking to win three straight in it and the 100 free, which will be on the meet\u2019s concluding day Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Ledecky is fresh off winning the 400 free Thursday night in Indy. Haughey finished fourth in the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bella Sims<\/strong> was third in prelims in 1:53.74, with <strong>Madison Wilson<\/strong> fourth in 1:53.84. <strong>Summer McIntosh<\/strong> qualified for the final in sixth.<\/p>\n<p>Haughey is one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/news\/2887509\/eleven-swimmers-still-in-the-triple-crown-chase-heading-into-indianapolis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">11 swimmers in 21 events<\/a> looking to win the same race at all three installments of the FINA World Cup. Five of the seven succeeded on Night 1, and Haughey will chase the 100 free triple crown on Saturday.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2022\/fina-swimming-world-cup-indianapolis--live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results Page<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-cup-indianapolis-shaine-casas-posts-strong-double-katie-ledecky-wins-400-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Night 1 recap<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 50 backstroke<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Dylan Carter\u2019s<\/strong> quest for a triple-triple hit a bit of a snag, with the in-form Trinidad and Tobago swimmer coming through prelims in fifth. Carter completed a triple crown by winning the 50 freestyle again Thursday night and will chase a sweep of the 50 butterfly on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Carter clocked in at 23.40. <strong>Kacper Stokowski<\/strong> of Poland set the pace at 22.99 with a slew of Americans following. <strong>Justin Ress<\/strong> is the second seed in 23.23, .07 up on <strong>Coleman Stewart. Javier Acevedo<\/strong> was fourth in 23.34, a tenth off <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimming.ca\/en\/news\/2022\/11\/04\/acevedo-kharun-break-canadian-records-on-first-night-of-indianapolis-world-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Canadian record he set last week<\/a>. <strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> scraped into the final in seventh.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 200 individual medley<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Danas Rapsys<\/strong> led the way in prelims with a time of 1:54.19, the Lithuanian leading the way by more than half a second. It\u2019s an event that is without the FINA World Cup record holder, <strong>Shaine Casas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kieran Smith,<\/strong> winner of the 400 free, is the second seed in 1:54.89. Fifth is the swimmer he denied a chance to sweep the 400 free on Friday night, world junior record holder <strong>Matt Sates.<\/strong> The third seed went to <strong>Finlay Knox<\/strong> in 1:55.20. The top seven swimmers, capped by <strong>Caio Pumputis,<\/strong> were at 1:55.62 or under.<\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 100 backstroke<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Bella Sims<\/strong> paced the field in the morning with a strong swim, the 17-year-old going 56.76 to lead a veteran cast. She\u2019ll get an inner lane with two Canadians to her outside. <strong>Ingrid Wilm<\/strong> is the second seed in 56.87, with <strong>Kylie Maase<\/strong> fourth in 56.96. In between is <strong>Beata Nelson,<\/strong> who is seeking a triple crown in the event. She clocked in at 56.96 in the morning. <strong>Kira Toussaint<\/strong> is the fifth seed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s 50 breaststroke <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nic Fink\u2019s<\/strong> rampaging form continues, the American taking the top seed in the spring in 26.39 seconds. He\u2019ll face a stiff test, though, as he tries to secure the FINA World Cup triple crown of breaststroke triple crowns. He\u2019s already got the 100 done on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>On his heels is <strong>Joao Gomes<\/strong> of Brazil, who went 26.44, and Italian <strong>Nicolo Martinenghi<\/strong> in 26.54. <strong>Michael Andrew,<\/strong> who just missed the final in the 50 fly, is the fourth seed in 26.57.<\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 50 butterfly<\/h4>\n<p>The final will be star-studded and up for grabs, with a half-second separating the top six. <strong>Beryl Gastaldello<\/strong> led the way in the morning with a time of 25.31. That was .05 up on <strong>Louise Hansson,<\/strong> with <strong>Abbey Weitzel<\/strong> going 25.67. <strong>Kasia Wasick,<\/strong> the 50 free champ, can\u2019t be ruled out either, fourth in 25.78.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 100 freestyle<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Kyle Chalmers<\/strong> is chasing his third title in the 100 free, and he\u2019ll do it from a central lane. He set the pace in the morning with a time of 46.61, nearly a quarter second up on a relatively thin sprint field full of longer-distance generalists instead.<\/p>\n<p>Second is <strong>Drew Kibler,<\/strong> who went 46.83. He\u2019s followed by fellow American <strong>Kieran Smith,<\/strong> at the low end of his specialty area, in 47.12. <strong>Thomas Ceccon<\/strong> is the fifth seed, with <strong>Justin Ress<\/strong> sixth.<\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 100 breast<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Ruta Meilutyte\u2019s<\/strong> chase of a third 100 breast title will be launched from a peripheral lane. She came through sixth in prelims, clocking in at 1:06.51.<\/p>\n<p>The Lithuanian will be chasing an impressive top three, led by <strong>Anastasia Gorbenko,<\/strong> who went 1:05.69. <strong>Sydney Pickrem<\/strong> is the second see in 1:05.79, with hometown Olympian <strong>Lilly King<\/strong> third in 1:05.80.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 200 butterfly<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Trenton Julian<\/strong> unleashed an impressive swim in the 200 fly to take home the top seed in 1:51.04. That\u2019s nearly a second clear of <strong>Chad le Clos,<\/strong> the triple 100 fly champion at this FINA World Cup. The South African is seeded second after clocking in at 1:52.36.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jose Martinez<\/strong> of Mexico earned the third seed in 1:52.56. Fourth is <strong>Ilya Kharun,<\/strong> the newly minted Canadian record holder in the 100 fly. The 17-year-old was .06 off <strong>Javier Acevedo\u2019s<\/strong> national record in the 200 fly in the morning in going 1:52.99.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FINA World Cup:
