Following his 50br victory at the Commonwealths, Peaty placed the gold medal around Marshall\u2019s neck before speaking to Swimming World where he described the hours between 100br fourth and 50br gold as \u201cvery difficult\u201d for both him and Marshall.<\/p>\n
Peaty said in Birmingham:<\/p>\n
\u201cI said to her: one, make me angry and two, I don\u2019t want her to be a pushover.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want the old Mel back right now; I need the one that\u2019s going to say \u2018you know what? You\u2019re going to play, you\u2019re going to fight, you\u2019re going to do it\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
They had, he said, learned more in the previous two days than in the last four years with Peaty looking to once more find that balance for the journey into Paris 2024.<\/p>\n
Peaty continued:<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s back! We have our meetings of what made us good and what needs to get better this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I said look we just need to go old school. Swimming\u2019s swimming really. So I need my metres, I need my power, I need my strength.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything that made me great two years ago, six years ago \u2013 I need more of that.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is really just stripping it back down to the basics; turn up every single day, stay present, get the work done, go home.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Peaty separated from former partner Eiri Munro<\/strong> in August with the pair co-parenting two-year-old son George.<\/p>\n
The eight-time world champion will be away for almost 10 weeks from 8 December through to 11 February when short-course worlds in Australia will be followed by a training camp.<\/p>\n
He said:<\/p>\n
\u201cEiri and George have moved away from up here so that\u2019s a little bit of a different dynamic but one that\u2019s completely necessary for the family\u2019s happiness and for me for my training and it\u2019s working very well so far.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted to get that out there because I know people are speculating and what not.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut that\u2019s again what I mean by the next two years that I don\u2019t think there\u2019s anyone out there that\u2019s going to be more all in than me. I know the price it\u2019s going to take for these next two years and Mel knows the price.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I have got that old Mel back \u2013 she never went anywhere but it\u2019s kind of that age-group relentlessness I guess.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
