{"id":515224,"date":"2022-10-29T10:31:59","date_gmt":"2022-10-29T17:31:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=515224"},"modified":"2022-10-29T10:33:17","modified_gmt":"2022-10-29T17:33:17","slug":"rutgers-earns-first-ever-win-over-purdue-in-big-ten-showdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/rutgers-earns-first-ever-win-over-purdue-in-big-ten-showdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Rutgers Earns First-Ever Win Over Purdue in Big Ten Showdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rutgers swimming and diving garnered its first-ever victory over Purdue taking a 191-162 victory over the Boilermakers on Saturday at the Rutgers Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Scarlet Knights won six of the nine events contested on Saturday and 12 of the two-day meet&#8217;s 19 contests. \u00a0Additionally, Rutgers collected two more top 10 times in the Scarlet Knight record book \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scarletknights.com\/sports\/womens-swimming-and-diving\/roster\/rachel-kimmel\/11691\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><dfn>Rachel Kimmel<\/dfn><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in the 100 breast and\u00a0<strong><dfn>Madison Murtagh<\/dfn>\u00a0<\/strong>in the 1000 free \u2013 totaling five new top 10 times\/scores for the meet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More college news<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Murtaugh captured another distance victory against the Boilermakers and put her name into the Rutgers top 10 with her 1000 free swim. Her winning time of 10:06.21 marked the seventh fastest time &#8220;On The Banks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><dfn><\/dfn>Kimmel collected another top 10 Rutgers time in taking home the 100 breast title in 1:02.09, the sixth fastest swim in the event by a Scarlet Knight. Junior <strong><dfn>Tina Celik<\/dfn><\/strong>\u00a0placed third coming in at 1:05.45.<\/li>\n<li>Later on, Kimmel was the runner-up in the 400 IM with a finish of 4:35.85 with Salladin in third hitting the wall at 4:38.06.<\/li>\n<li>Rutgers senior <strong><dfn>Sofia Chichaikina<\/dfn><\/strong>, who won the 200 fly and 200 medley relay on Friday, added two more event wins on day two. Chichaikina came in first in the 50 free in 23.45 edging out Hannah Hill of Purdue by .05 seconds and also won the 200 free in 1:51.75.<\/li>\n<li>Murtagh was also in action in the 200 free coming up behind Chichiakina for second with a time of 1:52.10.<\/li>\n<li>Rutgers sophomore<strong>\u00a0<dfn>Sofia Maksimova<\/dfn>\u00a0<\/strong>took first in the 100 fly in 56.33 and was the runner-up in the 200 free clocking in at 1:52.10. Freshman\u00a0<strong><dfn>Viktoriia Kostromina<\/dfn>\u00a0a<\/strong>lso added a third-place finish for the Scarlet Knights in the 100 fly posting 57.09.<\/li>\n<li>Rutgers packed a 1-2 punch in the 100 back with graduate\u00a0<strong><dfn>Alice Scarabelli<\/dfn>\u00a0<\/strong>leading the pack in 54.71 and freshman\u00a0<strong><dfn>Martyna Piesko<\/dfn>\u00a0<\/strong>in second logging a time of 55.70.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Purdue&#8217;s <strong>Maggie Love<\/strong> won the 200 IM (2:02.20). <strong>Hannah Hill<\/strong> won the 100 free (50.63). <strong>Daryn<\/strong> <strong>Wright<\/strong> won the 1-meter (292.35). <strong>Madeline Greaves<\/strong> won the 400 IM (4:28.18).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kendra Bowen<\/strong> anchored the Boilermakers\u2019 400 freestyle relay team to victory with a closing split of 51.36, out touching Rutgers\u2019 anchor, <strong>Julia Bartoszewicz<\/strong> (51.49), by 0.27 hundredths of a second. Bowen teamed with Hill, <strong>Lindsay Turner<\/strong> and Love. For the second day in a row, Love had the best split (51.19) among the full field in a freestyle relay win for Purdue.<\/p>\n<p>Love, Turner and Hill were also part of the victorious 400 medley relay along with <strong>Abby<\/strong> <strong>Marcukaitis<\/strong>. Hill\u2019s anchor split of 50.04 was the fastest 100 free mark among the full field.
