{"id":514986,"date":"2022-10-23T12:58:48","date_gmt":"2022-10-23T19:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=514986"},"modified":"2022-10-23T12:58:48","modified_gmt":"2022-10-23T19:58:48","slug":"veterans-coleen-gillilan-jack-hoagland-lead-notre-dame-to-tri-meet-sweep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/veterans-coleen-gillilan-jack-hoagland-lead-notre-dame-to-tri-meet-sweep\/","title":{"rendered":"Veterans Coleen Gillilan, Jack Hoagland lead Notre Dame to Tri-Meet Sweep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Veterans Coleen Gillilan, Jack Hoagland lead Notre Dame to Tri-Meet Sweep<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame veterans <strong>Coleen Gillilan<\/strong> and <strong>Jack Hoagland<\/strong> kicked off their senior seasons by leading the Fightin\u2019 Irish to a sweep of a two-day tri-meet at Pitt <a href=\"https:\/\/und.com\/irish-top-pittsburgh-penn-state-in-2022-23-season-opener\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Fightin\u2019 Irish swept both halves of the competition at Trees Pool, with 38 top-three finishes in individual events and wins in six of eight relays.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Notre Dame 212.5, Pittsburgh 140.5<\/li>\n<li>Notre Dame 226, Penn State 125<\/li>\n<li>Pittsburgh 180, Penn State 171<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Women\u2019s<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Notre Dame 206, Pittsburgh 147<\/li>\n<li>Notre Dame 187, Penn State 166<\/li>\n<li>Penn State 196, Pittsburgh 157<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Notre Dame\u2019s men\u2019s team dominated Hoagland, who won two races on Day 1. He pulled off a double in the 500 freestyle and 400 individual medley, going 4:24.78 to dominate the former, then 3:54.23 in the 400 IM. He added the 1,000 free title on Saturday in 9:12.53.<\/p>\n<p>The sprinters took it from there. Notre Dame won all four men\u2019s relays. The foursome of <strong>Kaden Smesko, Tyler Christianson, Cason Wilburn <\/strong>and <strong>Chris Guiliano<\/strong> won both the 200 and 400 medley relay. Wilburn and Guiliano teamed with <strong>Tate Bacon<\/strong> and <strong>Colton Paulson<\/strong> to win the 200 free relay in 1:19.95 and the 400 free in 2:55.59.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/notre-dame-and-penn-state-at-pitt\/ncaa-college\/2022\/October\/21?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/acc-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC Swimming<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-ten-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Ten Swimming<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Guiliano won the 100 free, with Paulson third, and finished second in the 50. Wilburn won the 100 fly and was third. Smesko claimed the 100 back in a 1-2-3 ND finish and was third in the 200 back. <strong>Sean Faikish<\/strong> won the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p>Pitt\u2019s win was paced by a stellar outing from <strong>Marcin Goraj.<\/strong> He won the 200 back in 1:44.88, was third in the 100 fly and edged Paulson by .03 seconds to win the 200 free in 1:38.15. Pitt scored a 1-2 finish in the 100 breast via <strong>Jerry Chen<\/strong> (53.99) and <strong>Cooper Van Der Laan.<\/strong> Chen won the 200 breast on Saturday and was second in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p>Penn State\u2019s wins came via <strong>Sam Folger<\/strong> in the 200 free and <strong>Victor Baganha<\/strong> in the 50. Baganha was also second in the 100 free. <strong>Eduardo Cisternas<\/strong> finished second in both the 500 and 1,000 free. <strong>Mariano Lazzerini<\/strong> finished second in the 200 breast and third in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n<p>Gillilan led the charge on the first day for the Notre Dame women. She won the 100 breast in 1:02.44, then finished second in the 100 fly. She added a Day 2 win in the 200 IM and a runner-up finish in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Madelyn Christman<\/strong> and <strong>Kallie Chelsvig<\/strong> went 1-2 in the 200 back for Notre Dame. They added two relay wins on Day 2, Gillian swimming fly on the 200 medley triumph and Chelsvig and Christman leading off the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>Penn State won both Day 1 relays \u2013 <strong>Emma Harvey, Liv Jack <\/strong>and <strong>Mary Brinker<\/strong> were part of both squads. Many of the Nittany Lions\u2019 points came via the Meisner sisters. <strong>Catherine Meisner<\/strong> won the 500 free and 200 free. <strong>Julia Meisner<\/strong> captured the 400 IM and 200 fly and was second in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p>Penn State swept the 100 free podium via <strong>Catherine Stanford,<\/strong> <strong>Abigail Amdor<\/strong> and Brinker. Jack and Brinker went 1-2 in the 50 free. Emma Harvey won the 100 fly, and Jack was second in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n<p>Pitt got a 1-2-3 finish in the 1,000 free. <strong>Abby Licht,<\/strong> who had been third in the 500 free, led that.
