His mother,\u00a0<strong>Lea Maurer<\/strong> \u2014 who&#8217;s currently the head coach at USC \u2014 is a member of Stanford&#8217;s Hall of Fame and earned NCAA titles when she swam there. She was also the head women&#8217;s coach there from 2005-12.<\/p>\n<p>His father,\u00a0<strong>Erik Maurer<\/strong>, also was an NCAA champion at Stanford while his brother,\u00a0<strong>Luke Maurer<\/strong>, is currently a junior on the team. Luke and Rex will overlap for one year.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding his commitment, he said:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #b00404\"><strong>&#8220;So happy to be returning home to swim on The Farm. Thank you to Dan and Neil for this opportunity. I\u2019d like to give a huge thank you to all the people who helped me get here, especially my coaches, teachers, family, and friends. Can\u2019t wait to get started. Go Cardinal!!&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The best distance freestyler in his class, Maurer trains year-round with Rose Bowl Aquatics. He earned silver in the 400m free and took fourth in the 200m free at the Junior Pan Pac Championships in August. He placed ninth in the 400m free at Phillips 66 Nationals this past summer, too.<\/p>\n<p>His best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>500 free: 4:13.90<\/li>\n<li>1000 free: 9:07.55<\/li>\n<li>1650 free: 15:02.97<\/li>\n<li>200 free: 1:34.59<\/li>\n<li>100 free: 43.76<\/li>\n<li>50 free: 20.20<\/li>\n<li>200 back: 1:46.95<\/li>\n<li>400 IM: 3:57.20<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>His 500 free and mile times are the top in his class, making him a huge get for the Cardinal.<\/p>\n<p>His top 500 free time also would&#8217;ve placed 18th at the 2022 NCAA Championships, just outside of scoring range.
