FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 15. Night four of the Speedo Champions Series Federal Way Western Sectionals saw two meet records fall and many other races decided by tenths and hundreds of seconds.<\/p>\n
Tualatin Hills’ Patrick Mulcare set a new personal best and a Western Sectionals Record with his win in the men’s 100 back with a time of 47.69. King Aquatics’ Thomas Anderson touched just behind Mulcare with a 47.74. Bryce Kananowicz, who has committed to South Carolina, placed third with a personal best of 49.10.<\/p>\n
Scottsdale Aquatics (Ryan Hoffer, Jack Blake, Nicholas Magana, Bradley Dorsey) set a Western Sectionals record in the 400 free relay, touching in 2:59.05. Tualatin Hills (Patrick Mulcare, Jonathan Zoucha, Josh Noll, Liam Netzsch) placed second with a time of 3:01.65. King Aquatics (Tommy Thach, Koppany Kolyvek, Thomas Anderson, Mathias Oh) took third with a time of 3:02.01.<\/p>\n
Hannah Weiss of King Aquatics, who has committed to swim at USC next year, won the 100 back by over a second with a personal best of 52.51. Missoula Aquatics’ Hannah Leach put up a personal best of 53.53 for second, just touching out Kamehameha’s Jasmine Mau, with the future Cal Berkeley swimmer clocking in at 53.54.<\/p>\n
Jeffco Hurricanes’ Madeline Myers dropped more than six seconds from prelims to win the 500 free with a personal best time of 4:46.01. Thirteen-year old Taylor Ruck of Scottsdale Aquatics chopped ten seconds off her personal best to take second with a 4:47.10. Aces’ Ella Moynihan touched third with a personal best of 4:50.30.<\/p>\n
The men’s 500 free came down to the wire, with the top three all within two tenths of a second of each other. Denver Swim Academy’s Nathan Mueller, who will swim at Wisconsin next year, took first with a time of 4:27.45. Arizona Gold’s Mark Jurek hit the wall just behind Mueller, with a personal best time of 4:27.47. Nick Thorne of Mount Hood Aquatics touched third in a new personal best of 4:27.66.<\/p>\n
Carolyn McCann of King Aquatics won the 100 breast, with the future Michigan Wolverine posting a 1:01.60. Bellevue’s Kimberly Williams took second with a 1:02.64, just ahead of Fort Collins’ Bailey Kovac, who set a new personal best of 1:02.70.<\/p>\n
Matthew Anderson of the Arizona Marlins touched first in the men’s 100 breast with a personal best of 54.69. Current Swimming’s Thomas Brewer clocked in at 54.76 for second, while Aces’ John Bushman posted a 54.93 for third.<\/p>\n
The women’s 100 fly saw another close finish, with Jasmine Mau touching out the field in 53.62. Bearcat Swim Club’s Mackenzie Rumrill hit the wall in a personal best of 53.64, and Fort Collins’ Bailey Nero posted a personal best of 53.84 for third.<\/p>\n
South African Olympian Roland Schoeman put on a show in the men’s 100 fly, with the Phoenix swimmer putting up a winning time of 45.51. Ryan Hoffer of Scottsdale Aquatics clocked in at 47.92 for second, just ahead of King Aquatics’ Mathias Oh, who touched in 47.97.<\/p>\n
The Scottsdale Aquatics women (Samantha Fazio, Taylor Ruck, Hannah Holman, Victoria Toris) took first in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:21.85. King Aquatics (Ashley Sutherland, Morgan Ginnis, Heidi Vanderwel, Kenna Ramey) touched second in 3:22.65.
