Photo Courtesy: Rose Family Collection.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The distinguished Rose collection, to be auctioned by <em>Smith &amp; Singer<\/em> on behalf of The Rose Family, will be offered individually in a sale of\u00a0<em>Important Jewels, Watches &amp; Medals<\/em>\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p>Rose\u2019s Olympic gold medals from Melbourne (400 and 1500m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle relay) and Rome (400m freestyle) are expected to fetch between $AUS60,000 and $AUS80,000 each.<\/p>\n<p>While his four Commonwealth Games gold medals all from Perth in 1962 (440 and 1650 yards freestyle and 4&#215;110 and 4&#215;220 yards freestyle) are expected to reach between $AUS30,000 and $AUS40,000.<\/p>\n<p>At 17, Rose\u00a0 became the youngest triple gold Olympic medalist in history at the 1956 Games in Melbourne (joined by Ian Thorpe in 2000) and made history again in Rome at the 1960 Olympics by becoming the first man to defend the 400m freestyle (again joined by Thorpe &#8211; 2000 and 2004).<\/p>\n<p>Rose emerged from the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne as a national hero who was inducted into The Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1985 as an Athlete Member for his contribution to the sport of swimming and was elevated to \u201cLegend of Australian Sport\u201d in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>The blonde-haired University of Southern California graduate and his striking profile helped take him to Hollywood stardom, with a diet that included nuts, raw vegetables and servings of seaweed. He was 73.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geoffrey Smith,<\/strong> Chairman of Smith &amp; Singer, in announcing the auction, said: \u201cAustralia\u2019s reputation as a great swimming nation is founded on the
