{"id":514345,"date":"2022-10-14T04:34:44","date_gmt":"2022-10-14T11:34:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=514345"},"modified":"2022-10-14T04:34:44","modified_gmt":"2022-10-14T11:34:44","slug":"torri-huske-doubles-as-stanford-opens-season-with-victory-claire-curzan-triumphs-in-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/torri-huske-doubles-as-stanford-opens-season-with-victory-claire-curzan-triumphs-in-debut\/","title":{"rendered":"Torri Huske Doubles As Stanford Opens Season With Victory; Claire Curzan Triumphs in Debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Torri Huske Doubles As Stanford Opens Season With Victory; Claire Curzan Triumphs in Debut<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stanford opened its season with a 164-89 Pac-12 victory over Utah on Thursday afternoon at Avery Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinal, which improved to 10-1 in conference openers under head coach <strong>Greg Meehan<\/strong>, showcased its depth across the board and swept all event titles in a dominant debut.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday&#8217;s competition also represented the program&#8217;s annual Breast Cancer Awareness meet, with all proceeds benefiting the Women&#8217;s Health Center at Stanford Medicine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/stanford-vs-utah-women-day-1\/ncaa-college\/2022\/October\/13?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Torri Huske<\/strong> and <strong>Emma Wheal<\/strong> led the way with a pair of event titles. Huske paced the field at 2:14.65 in the 200 breast and led a Cardinal podium sweep of the 100 back with a time of 52.62. Wheal clocked in at 50.98 in the 100 free and led a 1-2-3 Stanford finish of the 50 free with a time of 23.01.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford also produced the top three finishes in the 200 free, with <strong>Kayla Wilson<\/strong> taking top honors with a time of 1:48.03.<\/p>\n<p>Also delivering event titles were <strong>Claire Curzan<\/strong> (1:54.77 in the 200 back), <strong>Sophie Duncan<\/strong> (10:07.22 in the 1000 free), <strong>Charlotte<\/strong> <strong>Hook<\/strong> (1:57.39 in the 200 fly), <strong>Gigi Johnson<\/strong> (54.34 in the 100 fly), <strong>Aurora Roghair<\/strong> (4:50.75 in the 500 free), <strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong> (2:01.74 in the 200 IM) and <strong>Sam Tadder<\/strong> (1:02.94 in the 100 breast).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Samantha Pearson<\/strong>, <strong>Anna Shaw<\/strong>, Huske and Curzan teamed up to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:20.46.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maria Papworth<\/strong> paced the Cardinal divers, claiming victories in the 1-meter (306.75) and 3-meter (309.15).<\/p>\n<p>Stanford returns to action on Friday, Oct. 28, visiting Washington State.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014 The above press release was posted by Swimming World in conjunction with Stanford Women&#8217;s Swimming.
