Dark lit corridors, popcorn spilling while jumping in your seat, watching those same tropes over and over again. It all brings nothing but delight. Here are 10 of our spookiest swimmer problems as horror movie tropes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Final Girl\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The strongest of them all, the one who makes it until the end and has to face the killer alone, and the one who has to swim in a heat alone. Facing down tough events like the 200 fly or the 400 IM without the support of competitors would make even the most capable Final Girl shake in her boots. The swimmers who successfully race by themselves prove to be the toughest of them all, making the surviving Final Girls proud.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dead Cell Phones\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The killer is coming, and you and your friends pull out your cell phones to realize they are dead and that no more help is coming. It is a feeling swimmers are all too familiar with when they realize they can\u2019t hear or see the set on the board. The gutters are too loud, it is too dark at night, and all of the sudden you are starting on a set that you don\u2019t know. It is up to you and your friends to find help in each other and by asking your coach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>A Creaking Floorboard\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hallway is dark, each quiet step forward holding the fate of the character, when all of the sudden a floorboard betrays the step with a creak. The same feeling happens when swimming a good main set, when all of the sudden you get the most painful cramp of your life. It stops all progress down the hallway toward the end of the swim set, as you attempt to work through it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>A Monster Foot Grab\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a relaxing night swim in the lake. The main character is taking a minute away from the anxieties of the day. Then all of the sudden they hear something, and a monster grabs their foot to drag them under the lake. Clearly horror writers have experienced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/12-types-of-swimmers-entering-the-pool-for-warmup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">swim meet warmup<\/a>. Feet are free real estate to be dragged under if you are seen as being in the way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Split Up\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At some point, the gang has to split up to look for clues. Normally there is strength in numbers, so splitting up makes everyone more vulnerable to attack. Every swimmer friend group experiences a split up into their specialties once the main set starts. Even though it is not for long, it can be hard for your moral to be away from your friends during a challenging set.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Non-Believer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s no such thing as ghosts. Or possessed dolls. Or going out too fast. Like the supernatural non-believer, some swimmers always believe that they will have the energy to come back when they go out fast. They don\u2019t believe that there is such a thing as going out too hard. Inevitably, both non-believers and those who blaze out too hard will suffer the hard truth at the end.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Actually Nice Creepy Guy\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sometimes, grandma just likes collecting dolls with wandering eyes. For swimmers, the same feeling happens when the coach writes a small set on the board. With bated breath, you wait for the brackets, until the coach recaps the marker and begins explaining what\u2019s on the board. For a moment, you sit there in disbelief at the reveal that they were actually on your side.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Just Out of Reach Weapon\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You see there is finally a fin set, and you joyfully rummage through your equipment bag. Then a chill shivers up your spine as you realize that you forgot your fins at home. The set was just within your reach, the ax that could change the course of the movie, and then it slipped through your fingers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tripping During a Chase\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Running away from the killer\u2019s advances, hurdling over walls and plants, you suddenly trip over nothing, and eat a face full of dirt. Any swimmer who has false started knows this feeling. Confident on the blocks, ready to get ahead of everyone else, you are suddenly the only person in the heat tasting chlorine in the pool.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Jump Scare\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s meet day, and you are pumped to swim your favorite events. Skimming through the heat sheet, you notice something odd. You stare at the page a bit longer before jumping out of your seat. Your name is under an event you didn\u2019t sign up for. Heart pumping and adrenaline building, swimmers do not always need a ghost and loud music to experience a jump scare.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are some of the scariest swimmer things that have happened to you?
