{"id":514033,"date":"2022-10-06T11:47:23","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T18:47:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=514033"},"modified":"2022-10-06T11:47:23","modified_gmt":"2022-10-06T18:47:23","slug":"matt-grevers-inducted-into-chicagoland-sports-hall-of-fame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/matt-grevers-inducted-into-chicagoland-sports-hall-of-fame\/","title":{"rendered":"Matt Grevers Inducted into Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four-time Olympic gold medalist <strong>Matt Grevers<\/strong> was inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Grevers grew up in Lake Forest, Ill., and swam at Northwestern University just outside Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>He was joined in the Class of 2022 by Cubs Hall of Famer <strong>Lee Smith<\/strong>, Bears Hall of Famer <strong>Brian Urlacher<\/strong>, coach <strong>Sean Payton<\/strong>, Hockey Hall of Famer <strong>Chris Chelios<\/strong>, Bears players <strong>Willie Gault<\/strong> and <strong>Dan Neal<\/strong>, WNBA Champion <strong>Courtney<\/strong> <strong>VanderSloot<\/strong>, LPGA Commissioner <strong>Mollie Marcoux Samaan<\/strong>, USA track coach <strong>Nat Page<\/strong>, Cubs executive <strong>Crane Kenney<\/strong> with special award winners <strong>Marcus Allen, Joe Thomas, Keena Turner<\/strong> and <strong>Toni Ginnetti<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Grevers made the U.S. Olympic team in 2008 and 2012. He won a total of five medals \u2014 four gold and one silver. In London, he won the gold medal in the 100-meter backstroke, the same event he took silver in during the Beijing games.<\/p>\n<p>He also won gold on the 4\u00d7100 free and 4\u00d7100 medley relays in 2008 and the 4\u00d7100 medley in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Grevers just missed making the 2016 games but qualified<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/one-year-later-matt-grevers-redeems-himself-and-smiles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> for the 2017 world championships<\/a> and has continued his stellar career through the 2020 Olympic trials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I found my place in 2017. I truly enjoyed it. It wasn\u2019t the nerves, which I had success with, but it was different. It was so awesome. Swimming could have been this the whole time? It could have been this fun and this rewarding without the pressure? It is such a different mindset,&#8221; Matt Grevers told Swimming World before the 2020 Trials. &#8230; Especially when you add in being a parent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe out look of being a parent is putting everything into perspective,\u201d Matt Grevers said. \u201cSwimming is everything, then when you have kids and are forced outside of the swimming bubble and it makes the bubble a little smaller. You can\u2019t let your mood affect your kids after a bad race or bad practice. You can put your energy into being a good parent even if things aren\u2019t going well in the water.
