{"id":513878,"date":"2022-10-03T02:48:42","date_gmt":"2022-10-03T09:48:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=513878"},"modified":"2022-10-03T14:21:02","modified_gmt":"2022-10-03T21:21:02","slug":"adam-peaty-to-compete-at-world-short-course-championships-in-december","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-to-compete-at-world-short-course-championships-in-december\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Peaty To Compete At World Short-Course Championships In December"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Adam Peaty To Compete At World Short-Course Championships In December<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> will compete at the <strong>World Short-Course Championships<\/strong>\u00a0in Melbourne in December.<\/p>\n<p>The three-time Olympic champion hasn&#8217;t raced since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/commonwealth-games-james-wilby-pulls-off-upset-in-100-breast-adam-peaty-falls-to-fourth\/\">coming fourth in the 100m breaststroke at the 2022 Commonwealth Games<\/a> in Birmingham as he subsequently withdrew from the Europeans in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>That followed his return from the foot injury <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-ruled-out-of-world-championships-in-budapest-with-foot-injury\/\">that ruled him out of the World Championships<\/a> in Budapest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke Greenbank<\/strong>, who won world 200 back silver and European bronze this year, will also compete .<\/p>\n<p>The event in Australia, which runs from 13-18 December, will mark the first short-course world titles for Peaty since Doha 2014 where he won three silver medals.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty has pretty much always prioritised long-course throughout his career although he has four medals &#8211; including one gold &#8211; from two European short-course championships.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old was a leading light in the International Swimming League and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-adam-peaty-blasts-100-breaststroke-short-course-world-record-in-isl-semifinals\/\">held the 100br world record at 55.49<\/a>, a time that was lowered by <strong>Ilya Shymanovich<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-ilya-shymanovich-swims-55-28-to-take-down-world-record-in-100-breaststroke\/\">and now stands at 55.28<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Shymanovich will not be at worlds because of the ban on athletes from <strong>Belarus<\/strong> and <strong>Russia<\/strong> following the invasion and war on Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>In a newsletter from the <strong>AP Race Club<\/strong>, Peaty said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI have been waiting a long time to have a proper \u2018normal\u2019 season with a full winter block of training.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been two years since I have done that, so I am extremely motivated to attack the next few months of training and get the most from it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis season is a great opportunity to reset, put my injury behind me but also take the lessons learned from the last few years and apply them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will be heading out to the World Short-Course Championships and see how I get there, and then straight into a big winter training camp through Christmas and into the New Year.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Adam Peaty To Compete At World Short-Course Championships In December Adam Peaty will compete at the World Short-Course Championships\u00a0in Melbourne in December.
