It has always been my dream college so I am absolutely thrilled to continue my academic and athletic career at Virginia Tech. I would like to thank my parents, coaches, teachers, teammates, friends, an especially my coaches for all of their support. Can\u2019t wait to be a part of the family, Go Hokies!&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Madhavan had a great summer in 2022, breaking India&#8217;s national junior record in the 1500m free at the 48th India Junior National Championships. His winning time of 16:01.73 shattered the previous mark of 16:06.43 set by\u00a0<strong>Advait Page<\/strong> in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>He also raced the 50m and 100m free at the 8th FINA World Junior Championships this past summer. Back in April, he earned gold in the 800m free and silver in the 1500m free at the Danish Open.<\/p>\n<p>In LCM, his best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100m free &#8211; 52.12<\/li>\n<li>200m free &#8211; 1:54.02<\/li>\n<li>400m free &#8211; 4:04.25<\/li>\n<li>800m free &#8211; 8:17.28<\/li>\n<li>1500m free &#8211; 16:01.73<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In SCY, those times convert to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 free &#8211; 45.50<\/li>\n<li>200 free &#8211; 1:39.76<\/li>\n<li>500 free &#8211; 4:32.33<\/li>\n<li>1000 free &#8211; 9:14.46<\/li>\n<li>1650 free &#8211; 15:37.68<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>His father, R Madhavan, is a prominent Indian actor, screenwriter, director and producer.<\/p>\n<p>Under head coach\u00a0<strong>Sergio Lopez<\/strong>, the Hokies finished third overall in the team standings at the 2022 ACC Championships and 11th at the NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n<p><i>If you have a commitment to share, please send a photo and quote via email to hs@swimmingworld.com.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0Virginia Tech has received a new verbal commitment for the 2023-24 season and beyond from Vedaant Madhavan of Mumbai, India.
