He received a kidney from 1992 Olympic swimmer <strong>Crissy Perham<\/strong> (Ahmann-Leighton).<\/p>\n<p>Franklin seemed in good spirits after the surgery. On Friday, he posted on Facebook: &#8220;I guess the news is out now. I am truly humbled by this wonderful person who has saved my life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The connection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/\/news\/olympic-gold-medalist-crissy-perham-donating-kidney-to-father-of-missy-franklin\/\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stemmed from a post on social medi<\/a>a by\u00a0<strong>D.A. Franklin<\/strong>, Missy\u2019s mother. Earlier this year, when it became clear that Dick Franklin required a transplant, D.A. wrote: \u201cOur family is looking for a Hail Mary as we race against time. (My husband) Dick has end-stage kidney failure. If you know anyone who is interested in possibly donating a kidney, please have them contact me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>D.A. Franklin <\/strong>shared her love and appreciation for Perham in a message: &#8220;She is really Dick&#8217;s guardian angel and saved his life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Perham was discharged from the hospital and is recovering.<\/p>\n<p>Perham told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tucson.com\/sports\/subscriber\/hansens-sunday-notebook-ex-ua-olympic-swimmer-makes-golden-decision-shes-donating-her-kidney\/article_52ad751a-20c0-11ed-adc1-bb2ed5811010.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Greg Hansen <\/strong>at Tucson.com<\/a> that D.A.&#8217;s social-media message hit home for her. She went into the transplant with a positive mindset and shared how doctors prepared for the operation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lee-article-text\">\n<p>\u201cWhen I saw D.A.\u2019s post, I was really moved,\u201d Perham told Hansen. \u201cI feel good about it. All of the doctors have been very meticulous. I\u2019ve gone through so many tests, jumped through so many hoops. They are careful not only about getting the exact match for the person with kidney disease, but also not to hurt the donor. It has been a really long process. I\u2019m excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"lee-article-text\">\n<p>Perham had go to through a number of tests before finding out she was a match.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"hidden-print \">Perham was a three-time medalist at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, where she earned a pair of gold medals in relay action and was the silver medalist in the 100 butterfly. She won the 100 butterfly at the NCAA Championships in 1991 and 1992 while competing for the University of Arizona.<\/div>\n<div class=\"lee-article-text\">\n<div id=\"inline-article-recommend\" class=\"lee-article-text trinity-skip-it\">\n<div class=\"ir-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"style-title\">\n<div class=\"block-title emphasis-h3\">\n<div class=\"block-title-inner\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Richard Franklin Recovering After Kidney Transplant;
