The quartet of <strong>Thomas Heilman<\/strong>, <strong>Henry McFadden<\/strong>, <strong>Daniel<\/strong> <strong>Diehl<\/strong> and <strong>Kaii Winkler<\/strong> produced a swim of 3:15.79 to clip the former standard by .01. The United States set the old record in 2019 at 3:15.80.<\/p>\n<p>Heilman got the United States off to a strong start, as he packaged a split of 49.14. That effort arrived after Heilman set a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/thomas-heilman-blasts-nag-15-16-record-in-100-butterfly-at-junior-pan-pacs-goes-stunning-sub-52\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Age Group record (15-16) in the 100 butterfly<\/a> earlier in the session. Heilman went 51.98 in the fly, but clearly had enough time to recover and give the U.S. a spark on the front of their relay.<\/p>\n<p>Following the 15-year-old Heilman into the water was McFadden, who turned in a split of 49.04 and exchanged with Diehl, who popped a 48.66 outing on the third leg. At that point, the United States was within striking distance of the world junior record and Winkler did his part by splitting 48.95.
